o3bor: A great BIG welcome to the SZ arranger kb forum. Many thanks for registering and posting your Roland G70 chord recognition findings.

I'm really anxious to get more feedback & discoveries from you on the new G70.

On the subject of chord recognition, It's great to discover that Roland at least supports 2 out of the 5 'rootless type' jazz chord voicings I desired:

F1-B1-E2 : G7(13)
Eb1-A1-D2 : F7(13)

Since Roland correctly recognizes the above 2 as 'rootless type' chords, I suspect that it may be fairly easy to convince them to change the 'chord recognition' of the other three from:

F1-C2-E2 : FMaj7 (3)
F1-B1-E2 : Asus/E
E1-A1-D2 : Ab5b/D

to:

F1-C2-E2 : Dm7(9)
F1-B1-E2 : G7(13)
E1-A1-D2 : C69

which provides a smooth II-V7-I style chord progression.

o3bor: I hope you & other G70 owners might contact Roland, and provide them a link to this thread in hopes they'll read it & implement my request.

One other question: How does the G70's acoustic piano sound? Is it of the SAME impressive sound quality as the one included on the Roland Fantom? Thanks.

Scott

Hi,
yes, it seems to be so. The grand piano sounds pretty natural and the drawbars are as VK serie (mini drawbars, but better as +/- buttons).

I think that Roland chord recognition is the best ever (they have also some patents about it).
For sure I'll report your requests and I hope they'll consider them.
About G70 piano I can confirm what RF says: it's really impressive and outstanding, but many other new sounds are really cool too.
There is also plenty of features for midi file playing and one man band applications.
I suggest everybody to check it carefully and personally, and verify if it meets your taste and needings.
