I hope to receive my Tyros next week and i
am looking for a suitable harddidsk.
On a website i saw a IBM Travelstar 40GNX
with a speed of 5400 rpm !(most are 4200 rpm)
Is this working on a Tyros ???

Regards
Arno

Actually, your better off with a 7200 rpm Travelstar as they perform much better. Get one with an 8 meg cache and your read/write speeds will rock!

I bought a 20 Gb Hitachi hard disk to my Tyros and it works very well. My dealer told me that the Hitachi is much cheaper than the IBM and also better than the IBM. He told me that IBM has had many faults lately.

I havenīt received my Tyros yet. I tried the hard disk on my dealers demostration model, which I had for home trial some weeks back.

I think my dealer knows what he says. He told me that they have changed many IBM hard disks because they have not been working properly, but with Hitachi they havenīt had any problems. This is what he sayed.

I've been installing IBM hard drives on all my products for years and I've never had a problem with them. I've got them in my Korgs, Yamaha's, Generalmusics and they work fine.

I believe IBM had given up their hard drive manufacturing unit and so you won't be seeing any new IBM drive - keep this in mind when you're out shopping for drives.

On the other hand, as a system administrator, I used a great number of the IBM drives in the many Dell laptops that I am responsible for and they run great and are very quiet compare to other makes.

IBM drives are amongst the quietest drives on the market, which for a keyboard can be important. They are also excellent quality in my own experience on desktops - on the contrary seagate have been the worst, together with Maxtor. Perhaps I was just unlucky!
