I have sold my PSR 2000 and after considering what I would like to replace it with including SD-1, Tyros, Technics KN7000, Roland VA77, and Yamaha 9000 PRO I have decided the PRO would probably be best for my needs -
No junk wanted - cosmetically decent and fully functional minimum requirments

I still have my Genesys and for the forseeable future is certainly keeper. I love the styles and many of the sounds. I am getting to a point I can tweak the organs to suit me better. Some of the organs are a disappoinment but some really have a punch. So will do some more experimenting as well as putting some sampled stuff in.

I like variety and this is strictly a hobby. Still Can't play for S**t. I learned to play on an organ and so I like a two keeyboad setup.

Hi Jerry,
if you're an organ fan try and check out a KN7. There's propably other reasons why you've decided to go for the pro, but the kn7 has great organ sounds.

best wishes
Rikki

p.s I also have a 9000pro & Va7 as well as the kn7.

Just curious how you rate your 3 keyboards against each other. You are keeping your pro for a good reason I gather. It is my understanding that the organs on the PRO are excellent. I would pobally fool around with some sampling and would absolutly add a hard drive - floppys are for the birds.

I have had a chance to listen to the KN 7000 and agree it sounds great. I feel I could probably get a pretty decent deal on a used 9000 pro.

Jerry,
You're gonna LOVE the organs on the pro. I really miss them sometimes, but that was just a studio piece and organ was not recorded as much as basic piano, bass and drums. I'm still toying with the idea .... if I spot a nice clean used one.
(You can have the first one that comes along....I'm in no hurry ! )

Uncle Dave,
You also said you love the acoustic piano on the Pro. And 76 note keyboard to boot.

That's true. I've said many times, if I was in a band (no auto anything)my keyboard of choice is the 9kpro. hands down.
It feels great, sounds great, has all the staples, and room to expand.
As a soloist, I have different needs, but that kb is about as perfect as I've seen yet.

Hi Jerry,
I kept all three because they're not worth a great deal on the second hand market ( here in Aust).
I had my pro well before I bought the kn7. I did try & sell it ( I was keen on getting a Tyros) , but I couldn't even get 50% of retail value so I decided I might as well hang on to it and bought a kn7 instead of the Tyros. Then in a weak moment , a friend was selling his VA7. I picked it up for 30% of retail. It was too good to miss out on.

Personally I prefer my KN7 to the other two, but I have been a kn devotee for 15 years.
I like the operating system on the KN's.
Simple to use. It's got a good sequencer with quite a few editing functions ( can get away without a software sequencer if necessary) It's on board style creation and editing facilities are easy to use( again no outside software required) It can create styles from midifiles onboard. It can also create multi pads from midifiles on board.
One of it's most amazing functions is it's sd card. Great for storage, but one of the features I like the most is that it can play audio files ( which can apparently be synced to the onboard sequencer, but I haven't tried yet)
I mainly use the the other 2 keyboards for creating audio backing tracks that can be saved to sd card ( as an mp3) plugged into the kn7. I use the sd card to play the backing as an audio file and I play the melody and left hand using the kn7 sounds.
I also plan on using Acid Pro to create audio loops that I can save & use via sd card in conjuction with the sequencer.

I like the kn7 styles & sounds, because they suit the type I music I prefer to play.
That's the most important part to me, you have to like the styles & the sounds or all the bells & whistles under the sun won't help.

I own PSR9000 and VA-76 and can't prefer one of them. I use both as two manual instrument for home entertainment live performance. Autoaccompaniment of VA-76 is great and vivid and have morphing of styles (that is GREAT), and Varyfrase but VA have sounds that impossible to listen for me. It’s mean no solo (due to quality of sound) and pads (due to absence of this functionality) on VA. Solo and pads I get from 9000 -- and thus have the best of both worlds.

It is very convenient for me have two autoarrangers -- to my purposes it is no need too much programming before using both due to one touch settings. I have to pick the style on VA and the same style on PSR -- and then I enjoy perfect match of style and soloist+pad parts (even 4 simultaneously due to PSR one touch settings). If it appear PSR but mere synthesizer, it could be difficulties in preprogramming voicing and arpeggios for each style -- too boring for me.

I think that I would change PRS9000 for any instrument with great sounds and pads but with no autoarranger -- and use autoarranger only on VA-76 and have patience to listen bad sounds of accompaniment parts of great quality and variety. As soloist+pad instrument I think I can use karmafied Triton of Korg Karma -- or Motif ES (both for great pad function). But I am afraid of 1) too much programming to match styles of VA with voicing and pads of workstation and 2) adding an external set of amplifier and loudspeakers (now I use PSR for that and use "effect loop" input of PSR to VA main output. I am playing only at home and compactness of setup is important).

I like the sounds of the KN7000 better than those on the 9000 Pro. The organ sounds on the Technics are quite a bit better IMO and are much richer sounding. The 9000 Pro's organ sounds are certainly the best Yamaha has to offer on their arrangers but I don't think they beat the KN7000. Of course YMMV.

I fully agree with you keeping equipment that is still extremely useful but has lost resale value. It is more valuable to keep instruments to use than to get a few $s on the second hand market. It is only worth selling when you can get at least 50% or more of your original investment back. Otherwise keeping them is the most sensible option.

I see you are based in Sydney Australia. I recorded music around NSW back in the 80s and spent some time at EMI studios in Sydney and stayed out in Whale Beach commuting into Sydney each day. Great place but I hated the traffic driving over the bridge in the mornings.

Hi Nigel,
the traffic hasn't improved across that wonderfull old bridge. You certainly wouldn't recognize Whale Beach anymore Million Dollar plus mansions out there now ( super trendy), no longer the quiet holiday resort area it was in earlier years.

best wishes

The following link no longer works but thanks for trying http://www.svpworld.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=568&PN=1ks .

I want to thank everyone for the great feedback on the 9000 PRO. Having two top arrangers now appeals to me more then ever.

I have found a B stock 9000 PR0 for around 2200 with full warranty - do you folks have any opinion on that deal.

Hi Jerry,
I just checked Simon's site & the add is still there. http://www.svpworld.com/forum/
The owner is based in the U.K. from what I gather.
Maybe you actually need to be a member of his forum to access it??

I'd sell you mine ( 9000pro), but unfortunately I'm in Australia ( hee hee)

best wishes

I checked the site and yes the ad is still there, one of the members tried to contact the fellow and he hasn't reponded as yet.

How far are you from NSW I am a distributor for a software product from your neck of the woods. I've had a long enjoyable relationship with your countrymen.

I think that Europe and Australia have a totally different electrical output then we yanks have. Otherwise I would probably buy yours. I have found a B-Stock for 2200 US which I may bite the bullet for.

Good on ya

Hey Mar..
Does it have to be used http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=70140
Why don't you call them up and haggle with'em. See how low you can get them to go... At least if you don't like it you'll have no problem returning it..

Hi Jerry,
I actually live in Sydney ( NSW). Power supply in Aust. is 240 volt so definetly not suitable & I would imagine UK would be a problem too. You're safer to stick to your own back yard & get a warranty.

Envious at times when I see the prices you guys get your keyboards for. Here in Aust. the Pro had a retail price of just under $8,000 AUD , which would take care of approx 2 to 3 months of an average wage. Fortunately there's fairly good discounts if one shops around. In the last few months our dollar has been rising, so it will be interesting to see if our keyboards get cheaper. One can hope.
best wishes
