...but she's just a crumb out here !

Ahh - the long and winding road is at an end ! I'm about to jump into my own bed after 2 successive 11 hour trips, back and forth to Kentucky !
Yay !
I got my Rhodes suitcase from Captain Russ, and before I fall asleep .... just let me say what a pleasure it was to meet him and his wife, Ann! He's a country gentleman, and a warm hearted guy, for sure !

After the New Year, I'll post a few things about the trip, but lemme say this:

Russ Lay is the REAL DEAL ! I'm proud to know him, and forever grateful for his terrific offer in helping me get my one, true "dream machine".

NO transpose.
NO reverb.
NO samples.
NO sequencer.
NO midi file player.
WAYYYYY too heavy.
WAAAAAY too bulky.
OUT OF DATE dinasaur.

I'm in love again. Ahhhhhhhh........Now, I have to record all my favorite Rhodes signature tunes, like:
"Harbor Lights", Boz Scaggs
"Just the way you are", Billy Joel,
"Lovin you", Minnie Ripperton
"Babe", Styxx
and don't forget, Steely Dan, Doobie Bros, Stevie Wonder ...... man, I'll never finish this collection !

Yawn .... OK, OK, off to sleep now. I'll tell you about the present that Russ sent home for Fran Carango too. It's wild!

Nite, nite, boyze ........ zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I just love the way those Rhodes tines resonant together. Those tone bars just swirl and sing when you hold a chord. It makes you want to play jazz cos those altered chords sound so damned good on a Rhodes piano.

I still haven't heard a Rhodes patch on a digital keyboard that even comes close to that thick warmth. They always sound thin and more like an old FM impersonation. The only digital keyboard emulating a Rhodes I have heard that I've liked is the Nord Electro though I didn't get to play it so it is always hard to tell without getting that handson feel.

That is a wonderful thing to own and cherish Dave. Russ knew it was going to an appreciative home.

I have a Yamaha S03 Synth which is a fairly basic low cost keyboard but it has one of the best Rhodes sounds I've ever heard after a bit of tweaking, after my New Year gigs are out the way I'll record a few snippits and put then on here for you to judge.

There is nothing better than listening to Chick, Brian Auger and others play the Rhodes. Man, talk about finger strength

Happy New Year

Dave,

Sorry I missed your call the other day--too many jobs this year. Maybe I'll make a trip up north this spring when things begin slowing a bit.

Thanks for thinking of me,

Gary

Chick definitely did the Rhodes justice. My wife got me for Christmas a couple of "Legends of Jazz" DVDs with Ramsey Lewis. One on of the shows Chick on Rhodes, Ramsey on Steinway and Tony Bennett doing some scat singing. Very Cool!!

UD enjoy!

Dave,
Maybe you should make another trip to San Jose and get my Hohner Clavinet D6 to go with your new toy They would really work great with one in each hand
Happy New Year y'all,
Bebop

Hey I'm easy. It is just resting here these years anyway. I don't have the cover or the legs or the music stand for it but it works and I can throw in the 9 volt battery
I am not sure how to ship this thing. It weighs a ton and looks fragile with those knobs on it. I guess maybe I could get it crated?
hey you know more about shipping stuff then me, cause I hardly ever part with anything, except ex wives and you just wrap them in hundred dollar bills and put them on the bus.
Best to you,
Happy New Year,
Bill
