I just talked to Roland, I wanted to know why the US website has update 1.06, but the rest of the world is on the verge of 1.10?

He said that if your keyboard is purchased in the US, the only approved update is the 1.06, and if anything else is used it would void the warranty, the updates found on other Roland website outside the US are intended for the keyboards bought outside the US,

Does this sound wrong or does it make complete sense?

Dear Hanspeter;

Are you sure that its not a typo? Because how could roland go from Ver. 1.07 to 1.10 from v. 1.06?

Dear Frankieve;

That doesn't sound logical. Was this just a customer service rep, or were they from the technical department. One commonly receives those types of answers from customer service people who don't authorize anything that isn't in print.

PS ---Frankie don't you know that Roland makes a totally different operating system for Europe then for North America. Yes, that is because Europe has special G-70s so they need a special operating system.

Is it me, or does the Roland G70 Arranger group sound like the gang that couldn't shoot straight?

They just can't seem to get things right with this keyboard which is soooo frustrating since the feature set is so good and the potential terrific.

There is no sense. Music instruments are not the high volume products. So, made different products for different countries is not logical. All G-70 are build in Italy!!! Sure? It's just a marketing argument to say G70 for North America is different from another. A special OS software engineer for American machine!

There's nothing strange with "missing" updates.
Most likely there have been versions 1,07, 1,08 and 1,09 but not for publishing just for the software developers.
This happens all the time with other software as well.
If there is a version 1,10 and they say it is not for the america's it probably means that there might be some utilities that contain wrong information for the 110 volts versions. I am just guessing here, but this could be one of the possibilities.
Ofcourse it also could be that Roland usa doesn't know about it yet.
As long as they don't know about it yet, they won't guarantuee it.
Which makes sense.

I estimate though that Roland Benelux would say (If they did'nt know about it yet) "let me cheque which is the latest version and I call you back"
Which is a different approach between european way and american way.

Hi All,

The update 1.07 that circulated is not an official (not finished/not good enough) version. Tomorrow normaly the official update will be released. Also with corrected styles.

Greetings

Let me chime in here. I am a Roland G70 dealer in California.
I too saw the 1.07 upgrade the other day and I loaded into my floor unit. Actually, I don't notice any difference. The site said that the effects settings were tweaked but I don't really hear the difference. I called Roland and spoke with a good friend of mine who is the "guru" of arranger keyboards at Roland US. He said that he had just received an email from Roland Italy with a downloadable new operating system which I thought was 1.07 as well. He was going to try it before releasing it to the US market. I haven't spoken with him since, but I can assure you Roland does know of a new update, but what it exactly is I don't know yet.

I just purchased a G70 on EBAY, I will get it next week. I will assume it has the first version of software. I wil assume I can load 1.06? If 1.07 or 1.10 is available can I load that one or do I need to start with the first upgrade?

By the way I recently sold my PA1xpro on EBAY. I auditioned the G70 at a local "Piano" store and loved it. This "Piano" store had an asking price of $4,500.00!!!! I think Roland made a BIG mistake going the CK route!!! Are you listening Roland! My concern is they will not sell enough of theses in the US
RESULT: No Style development and overall acceptance. This is an Excellent arranger keyboard IMHO.

With 1.07 I have less booming bass than with 1.06 -- and overall sound now more than satisfactory for me.

Thanks to Marcos Vampa I now have couple of hundreds of true brazilian (not brazilian-like, programmed in Italy or in USA) styles - and (thow this styles not tuned for G70) I now satisfied with style section too (especially with using of cover function).

Now G70 is exellent arranger with 1.07 and additional styles.

I'm just hoping that Roland soon also will release a new version of RDBM so it will be possible to sort the user programs order, because I can't find an easy way to do this in the G-70.

I can see that v.1.10 is ready for download now.
Is there a list or document who tell exactly what the updates have fixed?

What should I do with the FactoryData03 file? According to the manual you are not allowed to replace or copy to certain folders in the keyboard memory, but to use the new modified styles and user programs you have to replace all folders in the keyboard! I really don't understand this.

The user manual warns you to not write data directly into internal folders because you could loose your data or affect the functioning of internal database.
Anyway if you want to update your keyboard to the last data you have to replace the old data with the new one.
I suggest you to save on a removable media your newly created data (songs, user programs, styles, etc.), update the whole keyboard with the new data, then re-add your personal data.

Hi Turnip,
if you replace all folders lose all personal data.
My advice is copy the ROMStyle folder only.
Bye Bye

I agree with Freddynl on the matter of the communication on the updates, but not on the voltage. The voltage today can be variable and is driven by electronics. It is the same voltage and frequency converter(50Hz to 60Hz and 110 Volt to 230 Volt) from one country to another.
