First one that comes to mind is Canadian Sunset.

Mdorantes, our Canadian neighbors appreciate much the same music as we enjoy here so if you stick with American Pop Standards, I'm sure they'll be pleased.

Though some people may not be aware of this, many pop stars & musicians actually hail from Canada. These include (just to name a few):

Celine Dion, Diana Krall, Holly Cole Trio, Shania Twain, Jim Carey, Mike Meyers, Bare Naked Ladies, Gordon Lightfoot, Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams, and Anne Murray.

Having performed for Candadian audiences myself, I know they would especially appreciate your acknowledging these Canadian musicians & singers by playing some of the songs that THEY made BIG hits.

Wishing you a terrific Sunday gig !

Scott

Very well said Scott. When I saw this post, I could not think of a specific Canadian song. We are culturally close to Americans. We watch most of their TV productions.

I believe the "Guess Who" were also from Canada. One of their songs was "American Woman".

To make a closer bond with the Canadian side of the audience, maybe take some pop standards that most can remember and replace words with Canada-related.

New York, New York becomes Quebec, Quebec
Route66 becomes Canada6? (whatever hwy is popular)

By the time I get to 'Phoenix' becomes 'Smithers' (British Columbia)
Or use Smithers to the tune of Georgia.

Beach Boys, I wish they all could be Toronto girls (or something like that)

There are many others with cities, months, (See you in Alberta, instead of September ).

They might sound goofy but if you do 1 or 2, I think most will appreciate your effort of connecting with them.

(I think Canadian Capers is in the fake books too)

Hmmmmm...over 55 crowd, and Canucks to boot!!
  • For the Die-Hard Canadians
  • Paul Anka
  • Anne Murray
  • Bobby Curtola
    For the Rest of Us
  • Michael Buble'(He is a MUST)
  • Burton Cummings (of the Guess Who)
  • Randy Bachmann (former guitarist of Guess Who, and founder of Bachmann Turner Overdrive
  • Diana Krall
  • Tragically Hip
  • Personally I would avoid Gordie Lightfoot..(or 4 chord Gord) as he's known)
  • Avoid Stompin' Tom Connors.

Good Luck in your gig.
