I have a couple of suggestions...
(a) turn the light on
(b) watch your language

I'm fairly new to this board and joined to gather information on a replacement for my aging (but mint) G1000. But there is one thing I have a difficult time understanding. What on earth is this (frankly, scary) obsession with (perceived) offensive language? This is the second time I have seen a reference, actually, a reprimand, to someone for using what, to me, is a totally innocuous expression. Obviously, there is a line which should not be crossed on a board such as this but there is also the even more repugnant act of setting oneself up as the morality censor for the rest of us (who aren't quite so uptight). Besides, isn't that the responsibility of the site administrator? This is a music-oriented, international board populated by people from many and varied cultures. I'm not defending Claudiu, who appears to be a very young teenager stranded somewhere between annoying and amusing. I,m just saying that being called on the carpet by some self-appointed language czar for saying something as mild as what he said, pisses ME off. From what I can gather, the average age on this board is at least 50+. If that phrase is still bothering you, then perhaps some counseling is in order, or at the very least, a "chill pill".

Phewwww chas, this surely sparks things up.
Although I think Simon (who probably was the one that triggered your reply) is not the kind of czar that you describe, I too felt that claudiu did not even came close to "the line".
Of course some people are offended more easily than others.
Theodore

claudiu, why don't you try kaza, e-mule etc?

The term is commonly heard on TV quite often, and the younger people have seemingly adopted it. As for me, that doesn't make it acceptable, but then, I am in the older generation.

As for waiting for Nigel to censor something, I know he counts on us to maintain a modicum of decency and therefore I think we should be self policing.

Sorry, just my opinion.

I try not to react to flames on the various Forums I frequent but I have to react here
Personally, I hate to hear (or worse see in print) phrases which are used as easy ways out of having to think too hard.
I have always felt ashamed of not being able to choose words or phrases which uphold the beauty of our given language.
Anger or discontent sometimes engender such phrases in the mind but isn't it more satisfying to leave the common phrases in the mind and think of a more appropriate phrase which you just know would have pleased your English Teacher?
I'm with Simon on this one and I congratulate him for his timely words.

Hey Claudiu, it might be time for YOU to chill, and ME as well. No point in fanning the flames.

Peace,

chas

Yeah, Mr. Ed, that was hysterically funny. and here I was thinking that this board was humor challenged. You know, re. Claudiu, we could be the victims of one of the greatest (and funniest) pranks ever perpetrated on an internet board. If that's the case, hats off to Claudiu, the master clown......but somehow, I doubt it.
