Scott, apparently the Vega fill-ins work the way you want. You can go from Var. A to Var. C with one button fill.

Hi Don: You really got me jumping out of my seat with hope & excitement about this discovery.

This way you can use your to go to whichever Arrangement you wish instead of moving up or down only one Arrangement as on the other keyboards."

Following the above scenerio, I would assume that all you need to do if you're playing variation 4 and want to jump (with a fill) to variation 2, is to press the 'fill 2' button.

Ok, how about this? The Ketron Vega (and XD9) actually only have 3 fill buttons, plus a break button, yet there are 4 variation buttons. This being the case, which 'single button' do you need to push in order to jump (with fill-in) from variation 1 to variation 4?

In the meantime, I would think that Ketron could easily implement (via OS update) this 'Jump to ANY variation (with fill)' thing on both the SD1 & XD9 as well.

Perhaps AJ can provide us with answers to the above questions.

Scott

Hi all
I am an owner of the Ketron Vega
If you use the jump button you have fill-1 for Var-A fill-2 for Var-B fill-3 for Var-C and Break for Var-D, So if you were on Var-A and want to go to D you hit the Break button.
One more thing that is nice about the Vega is the Bank button for changing styles with one button push on the buttons on the left (0 to 9) for changing styles in the bank 20s you hit bank button and then button 2 then you hit 0 to go to style num 20 and hit button 1 fro style 21 and so on.

I just received a private email response from AJ, and he says that this 'One Button' activated 'Jump to ANY variation (with fill)' feature is not going to be implemented on the SD1 or XD9. He says it is ONLY going to be available on the Ketron Vega.

Though I appreciate that Ketron has added this to the Vega model, I'm disappointed that Ketron is not adding it to the XD9 or SD1 because I think this feature is not only VERY helpful & useful, but essential for LIVE arranger keyboard performance, especially for players who play 'on the fly'. Without this feature, this means having to take either one hand (or both) off the keyboard that MUCH longer. I only hope Ketron will re-consider adding this feature to the SD1 & XD9 . In the meantime, it looks like if I want to go the Ketron route, it's going to have to be the Vega, even though having the Middle Eastern sounds & styles is not critical to me.

DonM, as a PSR2000 player yourself, and familiar with Yamaha's convenient one button auto fill approach, and knowing that convenient style variation button accessibility is important to you as well, I'm curious what you would do if having to decide between the XD9 and Vega.

I'm curious myself! I would like to sit down and play both. I can certainly live without the direct buttons, because the X1 and Technics were like that. And of course many of the PA80 fills were so bad I didn't even USE them, so I don't remember how they worked.
The joystick interests me at least as much as the fill button function. Also the physical arrangement of the buttons is important I just have to find a dealer that has all 3: XD1, Vega and SD1.

Scott,

I thought I had mentioned that this feature will NOT be implemented in the soon-to-be-released OS (i.e 4.0 for SD1 or 2.0 for XD3); that is not to say it will not be implemented down the road, though not soon.

As I suggested, since you really love this feature and it is available on our Vega, you can go ahead and purchase the Vega and just not use the oriental sounds and styles (these are accessed easily within the styles and sounds groups). It has all the other sounds and styles found on the XD-series so you won't be missing anything too - what do you think? Does your dealer carry the Vega as well?

The FS6/13 can be used to control the arranger fully, allowing the player to keep their hands ON the keyboard so those that want to go to a specific arranger from any fill can just press e.g. FILL-2 and then press the footswitch assigned to say Arr. A, B, C or D, or better still assign the FILLs to a switch too and control the entire process from the footswitch.

Thanks,

AJ

Hi AJ ,
Thanks for your response & clarification.

btw: here's the actual question & email response I got from AJ:

>>> Scottyee:
My question to you now, is this new 'Jump to ANY variation along with fill' feature going to be implemented (via OS update) on the SD1 and/or XD9 as well? If so, when do you think it will happen?

>>>AJ: We don't currently see this as a 'required' feature for the regular arranger user (esp. when you combine with features such as Bassist and Drum Remix which we are including in these keyboards) so we've left this out for the next releases. With memory restrictions, we have to implement the required functions ... until we come out with a new product that has more memory etc
