I was just looking at Yamaha`s web site and the electrical spec`s for the 740 and the 2000 and they are the same. Anybody ever tried a PA-6 adapter instead of what comes in the box. Feed back appreciated.

Hi Jedi,
Why would you want to? My PA300 pwr. sup.
came with the PSR-2000. It's much liter and easer to store when going to play music.
The PA300: Input 120v 45W
output 2.4A 16v

PA6 : Input 120v 38W,
output 2A 12v
They should either one should work! But I wouldn't do it! The PA300 is rated a little
higher,more wattage,more amperage.
Just my opinion.

No it wont work. The PA 300 is an smps adaptor ( switsh mode power supply ) and hence the ripple content at the output is extremely low, where as the PA 6 isin't an smps adaptor hence one will hear a 'hum' from the PSR2000/1000 speakers if PA 6 is used.
PA 300 is strongly recomended.
best wishes.

Thanks Folks,
I was looking at the spec`s and saw that the voltage is the same, But your right if the amp`s are different then if won`t work. Just an idea , thanks for the insight, Yamaha did change there web site spec`s (again)for the 2000. I guess I`m just "grasping at straws" to find an easy fix. Good call on the smps adaptor, was not aware of that!!

Hi Dev,
You're 100% correct! I never really checked into the spec's 0f the PA-300, I just knew I wouldn't use anything else! I didn't realize it was a SMPS power adapter until I saw your
posting! You're right the PA-5/6 would not filter out the AC ripple near so well.
Have a nice day,
Nobby
PS: That's also the reason, they can make it so much smaller, liter, & operate cooler moving near the same amperage!
