I would like to know what percentage of you who are performers create and use your own MIDI sequences to provide custom drums and instrument backing during your performance?

And for those of you who do, what percentage of your gigs do you use sequences vs. arranger styles?

And when using sequences such as a Cakewalk Sonar sequence, do you use the Sonar interface during your performance or is there a more friendly Performance user interface? I just can't see myself trying to click around and maneuver Cakewalk screens while in a performance. Do you use VanBasco’s Kaeroke player for this? I was thinking, Cakewalk must have some very simple front-end designed be used especially for performance situations that would allow you to quickly repeat phrases, do fades, and go from song to song quickly with minimal breaks in between.

Looking for some direction from you seasoned veterans.

Thanks, Russ

I use maybe two sequences a night. Usually none. Everything is live using the arranger styles.
I'm not saying this is best, but it works for me.
I saw a guy last night who kept an audience totally entralled for five hours with just a guitar and a DRUM MACHINE. He used maybe half a dozen backing tracks. He also used his wit, gift for gab and a yo-yo. (Not a dummy, but a real Duncan yo-yo.)
His name is Billy Ledbetter. Hank B and I and some others went to catch his act at Sam's Town Casino and catch up on old times.
It's not what you use but your talent that counts.
