Gary, get well real soon. I can relate to this after having one. Talk about discomfort. The nurse said it's worse than having a baby.

Gary, I hope they have a handle on your pain I have been there twice, its not a good place. Thank God it is something that can be taken care of easily.

I had to drink huge amounts of water to pass the stones. They do have a method of using sound waves to break the stone into smaller segments.

Be well Gary, we are a large group of people who care for you.

Gary,

Two schools of thought here;

Keep off of that Kickapoo Joy Juice which may be giving you those stones

-OR-

You better start drinking more of that Kickapoo Joy Juice to ease the pain.

Either way, Hope you feel better soon!!!

Warm Regards,

Gary all the best to you, wish you a speedy recovery.

I understand completely I had 2 kidney stone attacks last month. One required a 3 day hospitalization. Very painful indeed. They did a procedure to remove the stones. They could not get them completely the first try, so a week later I had to return for another surgical procedure. It's not fun having tubes stuck in places where the sun don't shine. Best of luck !

Gary - wishing you a speedy recovery! It's one of the drawbacks of getting over 40... we all have to face the kinks that show up now and then. On the positive side, you're going to get a good goin' over and will be in great shape when they set you free!

Take care and get well soon!

They say that kidney stones can hurt worse than a woman going through birth pangs. The consolation is that once the stone passes you can look forward to several servings of ice cream to help you forget the pain Gar..

I just got off the phone with Gary. He got home from the hospital about an hour ago. He does have a stone that is now in the bladder.
He said it is the most painful thing he has ever experienced. They are giving treatment to dilate so it can pass.
He has only had two hours sleep in the past two days, so he will try to rest now, so he doesn't want any phone calls at this time.

Get well soon, Gary. Don't they zap stones with some sort of laser treatment these days? You know, disintegrate them 'in situ' rather than having to pass them?

Rock on, dude.

Renig, I'm not trying to hijack what Gary could answer. But after going thru a kidney stone problem 4 weeks ago I can tell you that they can use sound waves to disintegrate them. Problem is if they are located in a specifc location they cannot use that treatment. In my case they were too close to bones.

Gary,

I've had a couple myself. Incredible pain.
Good to know it's in the bladder now. From this point on its just waiting and praying for it to pass out of your system - the pain is pretty much over now. Just push the water. You need lots of it.

One word of caution for anyone who gets a stone and has to have an IVP test to find out where it's located... Make sure you are not allergic to the dye they use. I had no way of knowing I was allergic when I had my IVP test. It was more frightening than having a stone - and way more dangerous.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, and I'm happy to report that most of the pain has now subsided but I'm still a bit weak from the experience. I'm going to take a few days off, during which time I have to go back to the doctor for followups and discuss what's the next step. The stone is somewhere in my bladder at this time, and he said it could pass on its own. If not, it will have to be removed cystiscopicly.

I must say that I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes by everyone on this and other forums I frequent. This is obviously a reflection of the kind, caring, wonderful people that make each day a little bit brighter.

Thanks again,

Gary

HI GARY,
I just now got my computer network back on line and saw this post.
I am really sorry you had to go through that intense pain. I surely hope and pray that the worst of it is now behind you.
I have been playing a cd of music you recorded and put in the public domain and I put it on cd. You really are a talented musician/vocalist and I enjoy listening to your work. Keep up that good work.
Best to you in your recovery and upward and onward.

Hi Gary,
I've been away from this forum for quite sometime. I hope by now you are fully recovered from your bladder stones. If not you have to undergo laparoscopic surgery (cystoscope) under general/spinal anesthesia to remove it. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks again everyone. Underwent the surgery on Wednesday evening, the stone was removed cystoscopically under general anesthesia, then a stent was placed in the ureter between the left kidney and bladder. A length of suture material was attached to the end of the stent, which is now dangling out the end of the urethra. Still in a bit of pain, peeing blood, but with luck, things will improve on Wednesday when the stent is removed. I'll keep you posted.

Gary ... how did it go today ... actually, when I had the prostate thing getting that cath out was the EASY part ... or maybe it just bothered me so much while it was in there, that ANYTHING was easier ...

Tony,

I didn't have a cath--I had stent, a 14 t0 16-inch tube that went from my left kidney down to the bladder. A 10-inch length of suture was attached to the end of the tube, which was routed through my bladder, down the urethra and exited through my ***** , with about 4 inches hanging out. This was used as a pull cord, and while I'm sure it took less than a minute to carefully pull the tube out, it seemed like an hour. No anesthesia, no bullet to bite on, and no hot looking gal to hold my hand while the stent was extracted. There's still some residual bleeding and pain, but it's not real bad. Tomorrow night I'm back on the job and I only have two open days between now and NYE.

Just another fun day in Paradise,

Gary

When the doc removed this thing he just said "take a deep breath in and then slowly let it out" ... it was during the 'slowly let it out' that he pulled ...

OK, enough of this, let's get back to music ....

Yeah I know that old doctors trick. When I had a brain aneurysm some years ago and couldn't eat for 8 months being fed through a tube straight into my stomach that same trick was played on me. When I was finally able to eat again I went to have the tube removed. I was told it was just like having a tooth pulled. Sounds ok ??? but there was no anaesthetic and I can't ever having a tooth pulled without pain killer. The doctor said she'd pull it on the count of 3 so brace myself .... she pulled it at 2 and I almost shot through the ceiling in pain when the tube and stopper holding it in was pulled from my gut.
