Dirk,
Thank you SOOO much for these perfect MP3's !
They sound great and impressive. There is almost NO noise.
Dan01, George and all the others were right saying the SD1 drums-session
is the BEST EVER. An unbelievable musical-drive makes everybody moving and
swinging.
Everyone should listen to ALL the files you created.... SUNNY IS
TOPCLASS....and swinging, the Hammond really 'screams'... as she used to.
I'M IN LOVE, IN LOVE .... YEAH !

DIRK, WOW, just listened to aLL your songs! You have PROVEN the SOLTON SD1
to be a totally AWESOME sounding keyboard with both your musicianship &
versatile arranger keyboard skills. As they say, the PROOF is in the
PUDDING! You really have what it takes to bring OUT the WONDERFUL
sounds/styles of the SD1! WOW, the RICH SOUNDING acoustic piano
(especially on "Autumn Leaves") leaves me SPEECHLESS. Were you playing in
full or split keyboard mode on Autumn Leaves? How are you triggering the
auto-accompaniment part harmonies when playing the keyboard parts? I seem
to hear you playing some rootless type jazz comping piano chord voicings
in your left hand (Autumn Leaves, One Note Samba, Ipanema). Were you
PLAYING these or is that part of the auto accompaniment 'piano' part? I
assume you are playing 100% LIVE in arranger mode (nothing pre-sequenced),
RIGHT? Curious HOW you are able to get the SD1 to recognize those jazz
style rootless chord voicings, if you really ARE playing rootless
voicings. Did Solton implement the rootless voicing recognition afterall?
Oh, and those Drums! MY GOD, I feel like I'm RIGHT there in the band! And
those organs, horns, and oh SH*t . . . The SD1 sounds too incredible for
words. This is certainly NOT your father's X1 for sure
Can you please tell us HOW you sequenced and recorded these songs? Was
everything played LIVE in arranger keyboard (w/ auto accomp) mode , or
were some song parts sequenced first and then other instruments added? Did
you perform/edit EVERYTHING on the SD1 itself? How did you record to MP3?
Did you record directly out your SD1 (main stereo audio 1/4" outs) to a CD
standalone recorder or digital workstation, or to PC software (via
soundcard). The sound is SO CLEAN, Present and ALIVE! What brand soundcard
and/or software did you use? Please SHARE (with us) your digital audio
recording techniques and the hardware/software equipment you used. I hope
I didn't ask too many questions but you have given us so much food for
thought.
Notlos, your forum profile states that you are a SALESMAN in the music
industry. Are you by any chance a SALES MAN working specifically for
Ketron/Solton? If not, you certainly would be the PERFECT person to
promote the SD1. I assume your demos are going to be considered the
OFFICIAL Ketron Solton SD-1 demos now.
Thanks again for demonstrating the SD1's excellent sounds AND styles and
most of all, your superb arranger musicianship skills.
- Scott

One OTHER question about the SD1, how RUGGED is its' construction? I
realize that the keyboard is relatively LIGHTWEIGHT (16.5 kg/ 36.37 lbs).
Is the weight BALANCED throughout the board or is it particularly HEAVY at
one end/area? Will it be able to WITHSTAND the riggers of a gigging
musician? Thanks - Scott

Notlos,
AWESOME!!!!!!. Thanx so much for sharing your SD-1 Demos with us. The SD-1
sounds Fantastic!, I just loved the Saxes and Pianos. The syles are super
also, "Sunny" was very enjoyable. The overall sound of the SD-1 is "SO
REAL" and the Drums are amazing, brings back memories of my X-1 only
better!!
Do you sing at all also? What is your musical background? Do you work for
Ketron too?
thanx

Dirk,
Not a lot I can say that has not been said yet ! Terrific demos on a
superb keyboard. More and more it begins to look like it has been worth
the long waiting (....and we're still waiting.........). In addition to
all the praise already bestowed upon the SD-1 and
your great musical input I would hasten to remind all and sundry that what
you have heard on these terrifice demos is, to the best of my knowledge,
the instrument straight out of the box with NO tweaking of sounds as yet,
no external samples loaded, no styles or drumsets altered etc.etc. one may
well imagine the sheer endless possibilities here and a promise of even
more to come !!!
Daytone (solton distributor for Holland and Belgium ) is well advised to
take heed of your efforts, I think a demo CD would be well advised !!)
I hope to get my SD-1 later on in July, it is sure something to look
forward to !
By the way Uncle Dave, I thought your comment a wee bit "tightfisted" ,so
to speak. Afraid you'r gonna loose our bet after all ???!!!!!!!!
It's early days yet, admittedly, but I am still puzzled by the earlier
comments of our
Italian/Swiss friends Dreamer and Silver, who turned out to be quite
apprehensive of the new Solton, with Dreamer actually buying a Roland
instead. Having heard your exquisite playing of the SD-1 so far , I can't
help but wondering. But I guess there's
no accounting for tastes.
Looks like the new Solton is in with the very ,very best ,for the time
being!!!!!!!!!!
greetings,
john.

Uncle Dave ,
I can't wait till you get one and put it thru its paces. On board speakers
or not the SD1 needs to be auditioned by the master! :>)

Notlos, can you tell me how to download off this site. I get an error 405
message and test telling me that it is not allowed for the resources I
have. I have not seen this message before and have downloaded from other
sites in the past.

Doc,
it happened to me too using Netscape. You have to use MS Explorer and it
works fine.

Dirk,
congratulations for:
a- your talent as a musician (you have been nominated by Scott and me best
keyboard player on this Forum)
b- sharing your music with us
c- the inventive you showed finding a site where to post your songs.
To John Smies:
my dear John, I am afraid that our friend Dirk could make even an old
Casio sound great!
The SD1 is a terrific instrument indeed, but I really wonder what Dirk
would get out of a VA 76. That said, I don't rule out the possibility of
getting an SD1 too, just to have the best of two worlds, so to speak!
Best regards,
Andrea
