When I was stationed in Aberdeen Md in the Army in 1970 I tried duck pin bowling. Boy that is so much harder then regular bowling, why is it so popular there?

If it's the same as candlepin bowling (skinny little pins you try to knock down with a softball-sized bowling ball) then yeah it really IS hard. I tried it a couple months ago when we visited Boston and I think we were doing scores of like 70-80-90 and the proprietor told us the WORLD record was only like 233...

I haven't bowled since my first ex-wife ran off with the kid that worked in the bowling alley (excuse me "lanes").
Sad, but true.

They don't know what Duck Pin (or Candle Pin) bowling is out here in California! It seems it's pretty much an East Coast phenomena. And, Duck Pins are like little, bitty 10 pins - colored brown. You use a smaller ball, without any finger holes. Candle Pins are tall, white & cylinder- shaped. Sort of like rolling pins without the handles. Am I right?

Yes Tom you are right . Duck Pins allow you to put your hand under the ball .
I once knew a farmer who used duck pins to hang out his laundry . All you heard was this distressed quacking sound . The ducks were not a happy camper . dano
