Squeak, I have never liked or appreciated Hip-hop. Open my mind--post some of your work.

Good lord I'd love to have one of those.. Sadly it's WAY out of my budget Hell I'd be happy with an original Yamaha Motif I was going to buy a new keyboard this month with my tax return, but I have to put that on hold again.. I have to buy my wife a new car, so I won't be seeing that new keyboard anytime soon..

Squeak,
You would have purchased a keyboard without waiting for the PSR1500 to become available? What keyboard would you have purchased?

I was hoping to get a good used Motif. I love the sound, arps, and drum kits on that keyboard... Plus I'm familiar with its operation having owned a Yamaha EX-7. The interface is similiar.

That would mean they have to make it possible to key in Sysex-commands from the keyboard. Almost impossible. My Roland's were always like that. Using Cubase, I can change the pitch, attack, decay, envelope, well.. everything. I can make a kit sound like something you never heard before. :-) Same goes for all the other sounds, by the way. Although "arrangers" are not usually considered to be "synthesizers", you can actually alter the sounds to the extreme.

They way I see it is if the kit is used for a preset style then it should also be a preset available to the user. Imagine if your keyboard had this awsome style that utilized a voice you absolutely loved, but that voice was not accessable to the user.. The kit for the hip hop style is usable, but the user cannot use that kit for anything else.. This particular kit is only available if you select that style to edit, and then you're screwed if you want the style to be more than 2 measurs. It would be nice to have that kit to use in realtime.

listen!! there are no hidden kits.

try this..

call up the hip-hop style and then delete the drum track, which will in effect delete the 'sysex command' prerecorded on the trak. record your own drum pattern. NOW, that edit is gone, you no longer will have that 'different' kit there.

Squeak,
You know what Pilot (Bryan) says about voice editing on the Yamaha's, that with a PC you have access to a powerfull synth. It would only require a pentium I with an XG editor software, since you are only sending sysex msgs.
Pilot hasn't posted in a long while. I hope he's alright.

So it's not a hidden kit, but an edited version of an existing kit. So how can we make use of the edited version of the kit outside the hip-hop style?
