Its all coming back to me from my i3/i30 days ......the Korg way of utilizing styles is very kool when you have 16 bar loops with different things going on thruout the style play & variations......then when you throw in the 7th the walk-in really makes it come to life & the seq-way melds beautifully vs just a repetitious 8 bar loop that most arrangers use.
I'm diggin it baby!

Too right, Donny! That's why I've hung onto my i30 for so long. (Cost considerations of a new board also figure in there, too.) The i30 is STILL a damn good keyboard. I know some will disagree, but that's cool.

I'll certainly agree that, of all the arranger manufacturers, Korg seem to take the most time to make sure that the loops change a LOT, depending on what chord types you play. Unfortunately, other than the new Guitar Mode, all of that complexity comes from endless variations for each style, that have to be composed and recorded by the style maker.

This makes it quite a herculean task for any user to create styles that match the ROM ones. There is probably ten to twenty times as much information in these 16 bar patterns with multiple chord type variations. And even that pales compared to the i30 days, which, if I remember rightly, also took LH velocity, and RH speed into account when choosing parts to play...

As I've been saying on the '10 years later' thread, what we need is intelligent rules for arranger engines to follow, that generate this kind of complexity from simple source material, so a fairly simple user style can be interpreted automatically, to derive different patterns for a wider choice of chord types and playing styles...

I'm loving the styles on the PA800, 16 bar loops is so much more interesting while playing .....I'll agree the i-series is a classic for sure super KB!

The SAS-20 was a gem...first auto-accompaniment home keyboard that didn't talk down to you.

I had both the i3 and then i30 over a period of six years and they were ahead of their time with style relating to different chord changes up to 16 looped styles. You could even edit these in each style. Totalling six chord variations.

Even Yamaha have improved from their then 2 & 4 bars looped styles.

Band In A Box has the idea of taking random style riffs from a style bank in each category which is possibly the way to go.

Maybe someday Yamaha will incorporate 16 bar loop styles also?

I did notice a few styles on the S900 with 16 bar loops..."Modern Jazz" and "Bebop" which has a 32 bar loop(very cool!) on variation "D"...along with quite a few that have at least 8 bars...so they are at least thinking getting more into it.

Most of my own custom styles are over at least 8 or 16 bars...gives them a more realistic feel(less repetition).
