Double the sounds of the PSR-2000 with some from Tyros and USB connnectivity.

Not good enough. The 2100 also needs the styles and mega voices from the Tyros and an internal hard drive. If not hard drive, it needs other mass storage like a memory card or memory stick.

Yamaha has given the PSR2100 a USB interface and file management software. They are pushing the idea of using a laptop with it.

Other than the USB port, it looks as if all the changes that could have been made by software upgrade IF THE 2000 HAD BEEN DELIVERED AS PROMISED.

It's ok to shout as old wounds are reopened But I doubt doubling sound ROM would have been possible with just a software update.

I wonder if it still has the 2000 key`s or the "Tyros" key`s.
Looks like a good replacment for the Y2K ,if it has better action and better construction.
However it looks like a "beefed-up" Y2K and maybe some "ghost" built in

What angers me looking at this keyboard is that it is exactly the same chassis and exactly the same buttons as the PSR2000. All Yamaha is doing is changing a couple of chips inside and adding a USB interface. They have ignored all of the pleas from owners who have asked for separate buttons for the intros and endings. It doesn't look any more sturdy than the PSR2000. It looks identical. Yamaha was lazy when they came up with this model. No innovation.

When I first saw Cliff's note, I assumed he was suggesting what the next PSR2000 might have. I only later discovered that there really was a new press release (about 6 months early I think) and the replacement for the PSR-2000 looks like it has only modest changes. The press release didn't give any real specs and there is no info at the Yamaha site. I like my 2000 but I don't care for the internal styles. That's OK, because we can load styles from floppy very fast. But I'd sure prefer some more storage to hold user styles. If not the hard drive, then there should be some other technical solution. My wife's Sony camera can hold many MEGABYTES of information on a tiny card. Why can't my PSR-2000 do that? The new keyboard looks pretty much like the keyboard. Why can't we simply take a board out of the old and replace it with a new board, like one does with computers? Maybe the specs will be great. Maybe not. We'll just have to wait and see.

WHAT ! Now we have to read the Cliff Notes on these products too ???????

At the Yamaha booth where the PSR-2100 was being shown, the information about it stated that it had the PSR-9000 sounds plus 50%. What that meant who knows but I took it to mean that it would have 48MB of ROM (32MB from PSR9000 + 16MB more (50% more), which is exactly the same as the 9000 Pro. Scrolling through the sound banks it appeared that might just be the case.

The keys of the PSR-2100 while different feeling from the PSR-2000, by no means where they great feeling but they were better.(definitely not the same as the Motif though).

The build quality of the PSR-2100 is identical to the PSR-2000 (same chassis) and it reeks of cheap. For a home setup its fine but if you plan on gigging with it heavily, its not going to hold up over time. Then again that's not what the PSR-2100 (and PSR-2000) were designed for so using them in that fashion is at your own risk.

I have to credit Yamaha for adding so many new sounds, a USB port, and extra flash RAM and keeping the price the same as the PSR-2000. Clearly the PSR-2100 is going to be a huge hit for Yamaha. The chance of finding another arranger keyboard in the same price range with so many great sounds will be quite difficult if not near impossible.

Well, I have to dissagree there.. I think that Don M and Scott Yee and myself use the 2k for a living for a while, I would guess logging in over 1500 gigs between us a year. The 2k Can hold its own in a pro Live gig situation for sure. Have you gigged exstensivly with one for a period of time? It is a pretty decent keyboard.

Could someone find out the exact amount of flash memory. 2mb is very paltry. That's what George Kaye is suggesting.

I'm very excited about getting all of the sounds of the PSR9000 PRO, so I'm definitely going to upgrade.

It sounds like the upgrades to the PSR2100 are these:

1. New styles
2. New wave rom
3. Double the flash memory
4. USB connectivity (for style loading and recording software only)
5. Slightly improved speakers
6. Probable fix of bugs on PSR2000

There won't be separate buttons for intros and endings or hard drive options.
