I need an external SCSI ZIP drive for use with my Roland G1000. I've found IDE and USB models but no SCSI. Any Ideas?

Hi Fran
What is the advantage to hooking up an external SCSI drive to the Roland? Aside from larger storage on a Zip250, why not just use the built in drive?

Tom, the main advantage is storage. being possible to have 6k midi files and 2k styles available without switching zip 100's internally and rescaning[ which is not terrible] but if you do request, being able to quickly search a song or style while you are playing from a larger inventory is great. It also allows BACK UP IF ONE OF THE ZIP DRIVES decides to go on vacation anf fogets to let you know till you perform..Fran

BTW. I was never sucessful in locating a ZIP100 external drive with scsi, and it does not benefit as well as a larger 250, other than a backup. Spend the $250 or what ever you have to pay, it is worth the extra cost, and you can FIND ONE...Fran

Thanks for the info, Fran. Doesn't the large number of files slow down the Roland Disk List quite a bit? I finally got around to tranferring about 1000 styles from floppy onto my Zip. After that, the Disk List menu is much, much slower. I used to be able to spin the knob quick, and the list would fly to the end. Now it seems it'll only display the 3 visible files on the screen, then the next 3, the next, etc. It's not unusable - but it's not as good as it was before. I would think with 6000 midis, it would become extremely slow. Perhaps you've organized them in a way to get around this?

Tom, For special files I'll use a #,$,% in the name to group the songs, as for getting around fast, I use the find function, usually I need the first letter , then I scroll for the song. It only takes a few seconds..Fran
