Well I was going to add a sound module to my KN5000, but I heard some of the demos of the Pro 9000 by Yamaha, and thought it was good!. I was thinking about the Technics KN6000/6500, but I would like the benefit of more keys - and Yamaha gives you these.

However, I hear that the Yamaha 10000 Will be out...but when I don't know. If I buy the Yamaha 9000 this week, I wouldn't like it too much if the Yamaha 10000 was just around the corner - and launching in a few months say (like January next year, or even earlier). The trade up from my KN5000 to a Yamaha 9000 will be lots of cash, so would want it to last for a while. I wouldn't mind too much if it is about a year from now though that the 10000 is released. (anyone have any info about the release date of the Yamaha 10000? - just a hint of a date maybe?!

Anyway. about the sounds on this thing. Is it has good as the KN6500? (Styles apart), or are they about the same? I want plenty of Synthy type sounds, pads, sweeps etc. Does the Yamaha excel in these sounds over the Technics KN6000? - Or are they roughly the same? And is it as good as a Yamaha Motif in the Rhodes Piano department? (I "might" have gone for a Motif if there was more Polyphony on it, and more DSP effects. There are LOTS of questions I need to ask about the 9Kpro, but will do so in replies etc (For example, If the Piano is so good on it, why the need for a Piano Expansion board?)

Thanks.

It will be at LEAST a year before you'll see a new big Yamaha. They always hype new gear for many, many months before release. They actually showed the 9000 at a NAMM show some eight months before you could buy it.
Right now everybody is waiting for the 2000, which was supposed to be released some time ago.
You will love the sounds.

Thanks Don. I thought I heard someone say the Yamaha 10000 (G Kaye??) would be at the next Namm. Whatever!

Now I never really thought about the Yamaha 2000, and that is because it wouldn't seem like a replacement for my KN5000. hmmm??? - how about an add-on then? - could possibly do that. Want to hear it first mind you. Any demo's going round?!

The Yamaha 2000 has nearly as many sounds as the 9000, i wonder what they have cut down on (sound wise that is). 16MB of ROM is half the ammount allocated to the 9000, so corners must have been cut somewhere (still talking sounds remember - as the Styles may well be similar to the 9000 models, and different - fresher - possibly better!

Thanks

Well the 9000 Pro has more polyphony (128), sampler, aftertouch, hard drive, more room for user styles onboard, more keys, etc., but it costs at least twice as much.
Main advantage of the 2000 (to me) over the KN5000 would be mic processor and harmonizer.

While the 2000 has half the 9000 ROM, it has only 1/3 the 9000Pro ROM (48MB) and lacks the physically modeled organ. I would guess the piano and organ sounds are significantly better on the Pro compared to the 2k.

Isn't there a MusicMeese coming up soon? That might be the place the 10k is to be introduced.

Thanks DataBlues for the Demos Link.

however, I listened to them, and there was little - if ANY difference to those on the Yamaha 2000 - and the PSR Pro - and that includes the Grand/Strings Demo. I hope I am hearing a PSR2000 here on this website, and not a PSR9000 - because they sound so good and realistic - that you would think they were the 9000 Pro playing!.

Thanks

Nimrod...I have just returned from a Keyboard \ Organ Festival on the East Coast UK. The Yam Rep says the 2000 contains the same board as the CVP209 £5000 UK, but with less memory and software. The PSR2000 is already available here in the shops and is very good value. As stated in the above comments it lacks memory of the 9000 & Pro but it has features that these 2 do not have. ..The most important to me is a Midi File Score can be shown and scrolls across the screen, so you can have melody & chords viewed or any track can be viewed. When I enquired about it displaying the chord symbols which are not normally available from a Midi file, I was told that the later Yamaha Songs & Tune1000 Midi files now include the chords symbols. The 2000 lacks aftertouch which I am used to using on my Roland

Regarding waiting for the PSR10000, Yamaha could not be persuaded to acknowledge when it would be available but when I mentioned NOVEMBER 2002 they just smiled. If its based on the CVP209 it will contain a very large colour screen and may be priced between £2500 to £3000 UK Pounds.
