This may seem like a trivial matter, but I've noticed that almost all upper-end microphones do not have an on/off switch. For example, the Shure 58 can be obtained either with or without, while the Beta comes only without. The last time around (~ 25 yrs ago), doing a single, I found this switch to be quite handy.

Maybe I'm over-prioritizing this, but, since it seems that most of you are using a mic without on/off, how do you handle it when you have to cough... or reply privatly to someone who approaches you?

Thanks,
Glenn

Many of the new mics are extremely directional. You must get quite close before they pick up anything.
Also, since I run my mic through the keyboard, merely turning the keyboard volume down or off turns the mic down also.
I do find I miss the switch sometimes though.

HI: Glenn
My mic don't have on / off switch on it
either, I found a on/off switch that plugs
into the back of the mic.
It is a XLR plug with a rotory switch
in it, you just cut the XLR off of your cable
& solder the new end on. It's the same size
as the regular XLR connector.
Works good.
The one I got is made by Neutrik, It cost
$16.00. I got it from a music store.
Radio Shack or somebody like that maybe able
to get them also.

Peavey makes (or at least they did) cables with the rotary on/off switch also.
