What's the best audio recording software. I do all the mixes on the keyboard and I do not need any midi or syth fonts software. I'm looking for muti-track audio only. Cool edit is looking the best at this point. Sonar, logic, cubase are to over priced for a simple muti-track audio only mixer that I' looking for. However, I wish goldwave would make thier audio editor with a multi channel mixer... Oh, they do have one but it's aimed more at video...
Thanks..........

Here's a program that is well worth looking at. 24/192 for $69 is unheard of plus all the other things this program can do. It's called n-track studio. It's certainly worth a free trial of the demo version.

I use Sonar now more than anything else, but Cool edit is a very nice program, except the multitrack version is pricier than the original single track one, but the latter is excellent at performing many editing task for single tracks of audio.. For a lesser price range, although Power tracks is a great value for the money, I'd easily give the nod to N track for it's relative wealth of features at it's modest price and for it's ease of use. Cakewalk Express is also inexpensive and does a good job I have or have had 'em all.

I used to mix solely on my boards too, and for demo's I sometimes still do, but when I get a litle more serious about it, I find that I can do a better job by editing and mixing individual audio tracks. With N track, you have either option at your disposal.

Thanks for the response..
Been demo-ing them this past weekend. I must say I'm not impressed by any of these. Cool edit likes to mess tracks up on the mixdown. N-studio likes to lock-up. Haven't made my mind up about power tracks. I need to spend more time with these programs and figure out the tweeks...
Thanks again

It's hard for me to comment because I don't know what's "under the hood" on your computer, but I have run all of these on my very modest machine with none of the problems that you are having.. I know N track has a forum specifically designed to answer problems concerning their software, and this is the first time that I've seen that anyone has voiced a problem with cool edit. A few years ago I ran both programs on my old PII 300 mhz with no problems, but it did take a little tweeking with N track.

What are the advantages and disadvantages between computer recording software and digital recorders?

I'm really starting to like Cool Edit. I mix the track on my keyboard then shoot it out and record it. Then I use track 2 and 3 for vocals. Record one line of a song on track 2 then the next line on track 3. By switching back and forth I can do multi takes until I like what I have. I feel like a cheater!!!
Anyway, still figuring it out. I didn't lock the track so I accidentally moved it and could never get them lined up again and before you know it I hit a wrong click somewhere and the whole thing disappeared. You have to be real careful when clicking!!! Up to this point it’s been a big learning experience.. I expect my new CD will be ready in about 10 years!
