HEY SCOTT,
That is really great. Makes me happy I ordered this new Tyros 2. The more I read and the more I hear the more satisfied I am with my decision.
Maybe I ought to order Jann one also
Thanks for putting this up Scott
Best to all
Bill

I heard it played at Caister, (See Post) and the mp3 by Martin Harris and other mp3 Demos don’t come close to the sound it makes live. (Wasn’t the best Board there though)

Dear Abacus:

If you could share your opinion. What did you think were the best Keyboard(s) there?

In the Afternoon I decided to go to the Roland G70 OS2 Demo and I have to say that apart from the suspect amp & speakers used, it is an excellent instrument that can be played with or without styles, the main new feature however was Guitar Mode and this really was something special, for those that have seen or heard the Real Guitar VST Soft Synth you will know what I mean. (Yamahas Tyros 2 Super Articulation Guitars pale in comparison)

Hi Fran,

for those of us who don't know either the VST soft synth or the G70, could you explain how the guitar mode is different from the SA voices, both playability and sound?

Thanks

Eric

Fran,
Where can we find G70 demos to convince ourselves ?
Did you compare the instruments both in live-situations or is your opinion based upon the G70 'live' and Tyros2 MP3 (compressed) format?

I probably can't explain it well enough in technical terms, but Fran is on the money with "Real Guitar". It adds realistic slides, mutes, picking and fret sounds that can be adjusted by volume and velocity. There are several modes available in RG and every effect can be adjusted to your playing to add a real live feel.

I'm pretty sure that Musiclabs has a 14 day working demo available, so you can D/L it and then you can decide. My Motif ES has nothing even close in comparison. Other very good vst's to consider are Plugsounds Guitar module and Dasample ElectroAcoustic, ( the latter has a 7 day fully working demo ).

Back to topic... the demo sounds nice... I don't care much for`some of the lead instruments vs what is available elsewhere. particularly the sax and horn. I like my 10+ year old VL modeling board a lot better, at least if I am looking for "realism". Some of the other sounds are pretty danged good though. I would have to think that T2 would make for a very nice live board, but my guess is that it will still not be comparable to high quality modules and samples for studio users.

I think that this is an impressive sounding performance considering it's live and done on a single instrument. I certainly know that there are better software sounds available but I would like to here anyone that owns the best software system / sounds available to try and attempt to produce a live performance that sounds as good as this one ...

Hi BN, Roel, and All
Please read my Personal View of the Caister Festival that includes the boards mentioned played Live, also the follow up from Graham UK.
Frans post is taken from the Caister article by the way.

OMG! WOW! . . . and 'all this time', I was lead to believe Fran Carango had finally 'at last' had the opportunity to audition a Roland G70, and found 'the keyboard' (another Roland afterall of his dreams, to REPLACE his old G1000 workhorse. whew . . . I was getting worried there. - Scott

I don't want to pee on the fire here, but I wasn't really too impressed by the demo. In other threads I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said that Yamaha's styles are (TOO PERFECT). I think that's what make them sound exactly like they were done on a arranger keyboard. They don't feel and sound "real".

They seem to lack "naturalism". I think that's why I feel something like Ketron has much better quality styles. Those styles just have that "natural" feel and groove to them. Korgs are close to that as well.

Yamaha's are just too perfect (if that makes sense). I think the Tyros 1 and 2 has some good sounds, but I think Yamaha has really lost the WOW factor in the style department. I think their styles drip with cheezy (I know some will disagree).

Maybe they're just over quantized, and that takes away from the natural feel.
