I started my new Friday job last night on a baby grand (a pretty nice one) and had a ball ! I set the laptop on the lid, and kept my rack to me left so I could adjust the trax and whoosh ! The night just flew by. What a treat just playing the kb parts instead of being John Williams all the time !
I know I'd get bored just playing with sequences, but the power and fullness of the grand really filled up the room. The electronic stuff never sounded better, and I forced myself to play in all the right keys!(got lazy using that transposer)

It really was a treat. If time and space allowed, I'd have a second board on the job all the time. Ahhhhh to dream.

Back to reality tonight. I'm at a little Italian resteraunt in Trenton NJ, and the cook loves to sing like Elvis. Last week he AND a buddy were both doing the "king", and they threatned to do it again tonight....so much for my good times !
...."I also play the spoons, Mr. Mack !"

Any old timers remember Teddy boy?

But the grand piano didn't have speakers in it ?

Have you read about the MOOG piano bar ?

You guyeeeezzzzzzze !
Live acoustic is a whole different ball game. I'm sure I don't really have to tell you that. I sat on a traditional piano bench, with a traditional mic boom, and listened to the acoustic vibrations of the wood and brass.
Ahh, memories.

Dan - yeas, I read the ad for the piano bar - seems like a cool toy. For this gig (happy, guys? ) I want simple. I play ... they listen. The trax are there to fatten up the live arrangement. I do many songs with no backing - just voice and piano. Like I did 25 years ago! (Only on a Rhodes)

Dave,
The mention of a Fender Rhodes brings back memories of my early days too. When if you played them too hard they broke. That was the keyboard of the day then huh? I ran into a used one at GC a few weeks ago....had to play it for awhile and I was 20 something again.

Loved the clav too ! Played the crap outta that D6 during the disco days. We didn't always have a guitar player, so I had to do the funky wakka, wakka stuff. (Phase shifter an wah wah optional!)
