I maybe a little bias but the sound, styles and flexibility of the genesys is superior to the SD1. The genesys is a lot of instrument, and quiet frankly, isn't for everyone. So it depends on what you are going to be doing with the instrument. The ability to load samples, additional styles, or even play with MP3 and wav files makes the instrument pretty versatile. The ability to use hard disk recording and burn CD's right from the instrument is plain ingenious.

I have been a Gem man for a long time especially as i worked for them a few years ago. I have a WK8 and SK76 that are excellent. I looked at the Genesys but ended up buying a Ketron SD1. However i am waiting for the pro Genesys to hit the UK. I will probably get one.

My first impression of the Genysys was good however i didnt like the cabinet/style. What an awkward item to gig with. How big does a hard case need to be. That put me off. The pro should be better.
I bought the sd1 as i felt the Genysys was only a 25% improvement on the WK8. The extras were good though but i felt the SD1 was more suited for my purpose.
When the pro arrives i will most likely get one to replace the WK8 as everything on the WK8 is on the Genesys and i might as well get the extra features.

There is 8 MB of flash ram in the WK8 and you can add two 16MB simms (32MB total) which is lost each time you turn off the keyboard. The 8 MB flash ram is retained when you turn the keyboard off.
