The one thing that I would love to have would be a global setting for eq,volume, for style tracks, ex, I can take the drums for all of the styles and bring the volume up about 5-7 notches and boost the bass and treble a bit, to give a more umph on the drums, and maybe a little more bootem end to the bass track.

the rest I can live with

Frank, you must be reading my mind. I really don't have a problem with much at all on the T2. Sounds good, easy to use, light in weight, good vocal processing, lyrics display, etc. However the styles DO come alive when you do as you suggested. It's a pain to do and save individually and I haven't done it except for a few of my most-used.
I would also like a little different Registration system.
To answer the question though, I don't HATE anything about it.

I don't hate anything about it other than the fact that being able to put 1gb of memory into it is overkill.
Even if you load all of the scats and other sounds available on Yamahas site then add 128 of your own TVN files you are only using about 25mb so what the hell can I do with all the free memory going to waste.
If you filled up the 1gb it would probably take hours to load a sound in anyway so any would be purchaser just buy 2 64mb dimms and have done with it.

Craig there are a few things, I dont hate its just that I personally will NEVER use on the Tyros 2 for MY Needs..eg: Sampler, Custom Sounds, Music Finder Directory,
& a few more things.
Not that others wont, but I myself have no need for these features on stage....but I'm stuck with them.....seems like a waste to have things you never use. Then there are things I would really need but they are not avaiable on T2....ahhhh whats the use?

I've never laid hands on any Tyros, I or II, so I can't have any 'loves' or 'hates' about them.

Sliders have been mentioned in a few of the posts and, for me, I have to have them - for mixing/balancing 'on the fly' I would think they are essential.

They did not get the idea from Midjay or from another keyboard, it is a feature that organs have used for years.
Something to give thought to: When you add the sliders you will have to give up some of the other controls (Buttons) There is just so much you can put on the top of the keyboard.

IMHO, John C.

I don't own the T2 because I hate
not having the 76 keys.

As for sliders, I think the non-motorized sliders are more a distraction than a benefit. With motorized sliders the present position indicates the current setting for the volume. Without this, the sliders you have adjusted show the current setting, but the others are meaningless, showing how they were moved last time. So now you have remember which slider is in its true position and which one is in the old position - yet another task to do while playing.

Even with USB1 things should go much faster. Why can't the T2 play native Wavs? It first converts them into 2 mono recordings at a little faster then real time. I once had to put 3 CD's on my beloved Tyros2. It took nearly 3 hours (even after the conversion from CD tracks to separate WAV's). I hope for a firmware upgrade to fix this. Related to this is the startup-sample-download thing. Why we have to wait minutes to get a few samples loaded in the memory.

Can't think of any other troubles.

Tony.....both my topics are only meant to generate discussion & possibly improvements, upgrades, and personal knowledge of the Tyros 2 for purchase opinions too......I bought mine site unseen with only some previous PSR ownership history thru the years & happy I did....it has its flaws for sure......you just have to sought out what YOU personally require to make music with the T2 & decide if its that's enough for you to be happy ...if not try another unit......The perfect KB may not or may never exist, but we can hope, buy, try, play, enjoy whatever is offered to us based on our needs, finances, & talent!!

I feel your pain my friend.......USB 2.0 & beyond is much needed......that's why I use a laptop on stage for all the techie stuff, files, Wav, Mp3, Smf, SFX, Txt, Avi, etc etc, ....its much more accessible & navigatble for live play.

Sharp corners? lol This keyboard sounds a little dangerous...maybe you should put tennis balls on the sharp corners. Hey, it could add some "style" to your keyboard.

I'm with both of you here! If there was just one feature request I could do, it would be global control of the bass and drums. When I do small events, I like to have the drums low, when I do large events and when I play with other musicians, I like them louder!

This thread should help show how "PERSONAL" each and everyone of us is regarding our concerns in a keyboard......Love or Hate aside........& definitely "my KB is the best" should also take a back seat.... somtimes features overide Weight & Keyfeel, other times Sound & Navagation takes a front seat, etc .. but I'm glad expression of needs are posted here which in the future as we discuss gear will further make people understand to BUY/PLAY/USE whats RIGHT FOR YOU ALONE.....which will hopefully result in a happy ending FOR YOU

Yamaha keys are: 21,6 mm
f.i. Roland,Kurzweil or Gem keys are: 22,0 mm like a real piano.

So the Yamaha keys are a little narrower.

Fred, I am close to finishing a restore of a 61'Highlander Cushman motorscooter and have just started a 51 Cushmen step-thru. We just located a 64 Honda 305 Dream to restore. My first two-wheeler was a mid-50's Cushman and my first real motorcycle was a 62' Dream. Gotta love "them" Hondas.

yours looks GREAT!

Only Yamaha's. They are 160mm (6.3 inches) octave to octave. If you've played a Korg Pa1XPRO or Roland G70 you'll notice that the individual keys are 'wider' than those on the Yamaha Tyros/2 or PSR 3000, etc. Korg and Roland have what I consider 'true' full size keys. But nevertheless Yamaha touts the Tyros and PSR 3000, etc. as having full size keys. In their eyes they are I suppose. But a lot of people think otherwise. If you buy a Tyros/2 or PSR just make sure you keep your body weight, including your fingers, in the normal body mass index range because if you let your fingers get chubby you will in my opinion have a more difficult time playing the Tyros or PSR 3000 etc., and hitting the keys without making needless mistakes.

PS: The standard for "modern range" Pianos is mainly 165mm Octave spans and even Yamaha makes their 88 key Hammer Action 'keyboards' with 165mm Octave spans with the Motif ES8 being an example. The problem is getting them to make their synth action keyboards like the Tyros/2 or PSR line with 165mm Octave to Octave spans like Korg and Roland do. So my advice if you own a Tyros or PSR is stay in shape and keep slim and trim - or else.

Best regards,
Mike
