It's not just SZ, other sites have the same problems

I hope all the posts can be saved somhow it would be a shame to lose all that info.

It happened once before if you recall. The Server crashed (what was it about 3 years ago?) and most everything was lost. Is it a coincidence that it now has happened again? Maybe not. Measures should have been put into place from 3 years ago that would have prevented it from ever happening again. Things like daily backups and also using more than one Server to host the Forum.

It could be a hacker but again if precautions had been used then it could be restored i.e. (fixed) in a relatively short amount of time I would think.

Or maybe this is Nigel's way of getting back at us for all the venomous and abusive attacks we seem to contrive on one another here on the SZ.

Precautions cost money, I would imagine there is only so much you can do with a FREE forum until it becomes not cost effective.
Like Russ said makes you appreciate all the efforts that go into this.

Other forums here in SJ I looked at are ok with all posts showing.

I think I have the problem fixed. No idea what caused it other than some random computer glitch. If this post makes it through and all the old postings are back we look like we may be ok...... touch wood.

The BBS IS backed up on a daily basis but that wasn't a problem here .... any more security would cost money that isn't available. Fortunately this looks like it was just a random bug ( I hope ) and was able to be fixed relatively easily.
