Hello,

Is it possible to have both Backed RAM en the Volatile RAM installed in a WK8, in the same way I did in the Equinox?

greetings,
Joost

Good Question. If you have asked me this question several months ago, I would have said NO because WK8 has the vocal processor which utilizes the memory slots of the volatile memory to add its own memory buffer. However, that was only several months ago.

You can have both 8 megs of battery backed and 32 megs of Simms. If you don't have extra RAM when you install the vocal processor, you then need to install the RAM buffer that comes with the vocal processor. If you already have extra RAM, you do not need the ram buffer installed, hence you can add the RAM.

Paul,

Thanks for answering. So these RAM buffers that came with the vocal processor, are they merely small memory simms? like 1MEG?

For those who have these buffers, can we take them out and put the 16MEG of RAM instead? What do we loose?

You can toss the buffer memory chips away and load up to 32 megs of sample ram in it's place.

Those buffer chips are only needed if you don't SIMMs already installed. Once you install the SIMMs you do not need the buffer chips anymore. You loose nothing by adding SIMMs to the instrument.

There was something about altering jumpers?, but a big thing that a lot would like is an affordable source of the memory chips !!,some quotes I have had for the 32 meg would buy a full budget computer system!
