Other than the demos on Gem's site, does anyone know of any more demos of the sounds and styles of the Genesys?
thanks,
Terry

Chris,
The Genesys is a good sounding board too. Good demos.

I thought the demos were pretty good. They sound real and not over done.
I am waiting for my Tyros, if there is any serious disappointment the Genesys would be my next choice.

Lou,
You and I are thinking alike again....Tyros then Genesys. Are we twins perhaps?

Hmmm.....
Terry lets stay in tune with this so that when the boards arrive we can keep or sweep, if you know what I mean...
I'm still very excited!

As you may all remember, I had a chance to attend Chris Anthony's demo of the Genesys ]at Winter Namm 2002. I was especially IMPRESSED with the Genesys'realistic sounding acoustic instrument samples (including an excellent piano sample) and very tasteful styles. This board seemed to include more features than all the others. The Genesys is probably the ONLY arranger which can truly call itself an ALL in ONE arranger workstation. The Genesys' onboard speakers sound very impressive as well, but I don't think the onboard speakers would provide optimum sound towards the audience as they are directed towards the player. The Genesys also features MP3 file playback among many other cool features which can enhance your performance. Ok then, why aren't I considering the Genesys for myself? For my specific gigging needs, it boils down to weight. At nearly 60 lbs (27 kg), it's way too heavy for quick convenient transporting . With a case, it would probably weigh over 75 lbs. On the other hand, if weight isn't an issue for you, or you just have to have an 'all in one' arranger- production workstation solution, the Genesys could be the perfect KB for you. With the recent annoucement that Genesys may be coming out with a smaller (and lighter) version of Genesys in the near future, I'll be keeping a close ear on its arrival. - Scott

BTW: here's the link to GEM's Genesys webpage, which not only includes the demos Terry's referring to, but it provides a good desciption of the Genesys unique features as well as the downloadable Genesys manuals:

Scott,
Thanks for the info. If I were to go the Genesys route it would be used in my studio and not moved around at all. I'm here in NY and there aren't any dealers around to see or hear it live. The styles, sounds and specs seem to be very together. Were you impressed? And would you consider this KB if you were using it as I would?
Thanks, Lou

HI Lou, I own a Genesys and let me tell you man this Keyboard is OUTSTANDING. I am very fuzzy about REALISEM of sound, and this Keyboard is a winner ALLROUNDER, for a Pro like me I don't settle for second best. I have been giging with it now for over 2 weeks and I am very satified with the risults and comment I have had, some SAXES sound much better than the REAL THING, one example is the ALTO SAX man this is out of this world you wouldn't know that I am playing a keyboard when you hear it, guitars are Exelent, drums you get lost with the quality and viriety, so go and listen before you purchase any other keyboard, about the wieght, it's heavy, but that didn't bother me much cause I use a trolly to carry so it's not that dificult to carry from one place to another, and you could take off the speakers if you don't use them, very easy to dismount from the keyboard!!!!

Lou,
I like the Genesys, but it is still second on the short list, Tyros of course first and here's why.

The Yamaha sweet, live and mega sounds to me are still the best I've heard.

Other than George I don't know of anyone carrying the Gem line. So product support and all that goes with it is out. Yamaha is a phone call away.

There are tons of things on the net available for the Tyros. Styles software etc.

I am familiar with the Yamaha o/s and think it fairly intuitive, I don't have a clue on the Genesys.

While the cd burner and goodies are nice, I wouldn't use them, except for upgrading possibly.

Weight doesn't concern me either as it is for studio use. If I was still doing live gigs though, the weight of the Genesys would not concern me. That's what they make dollies for.

Thanks for the info. I do have a Tyros on order and waiting patiently. I expect it to be an excellent board but if I'm wrong I will sway Genesyes.

Not to mention the user interface and wealth of styles that are and will be available........still waiting.............Lou

Sad to say sam Ash.....$2,795.
They weren't going to carry the line so I had to place the order, put down some bucks and keep my fingers crossed. Fifteen day cash, Thirty day store credit. What can you do. They've got you by the pants.....but I have alot of faith in Yamaha...
