I have problem with creating midi files with my PC and then playing back on my Korg Pa1xpro. I downloaded instrument definitions from web and create a template in cakewalk. I can define the same sound banks and sounds as in synth. It sounds OK! But when I try to play back the file on synth there is a mess of sounds. I turn off and on local control and activate midi A ports. Is this a problem with sequencer template in synth or I missed something? Thanks for any info, nice day

The Pa1X is a great Midifile-player and accepts GM(2) and GS (I think) in both MIDI-format 0 (one single track containing all channels) and format 1.

Are you playing the files on the PA- or through midi-cable from PC to PA1X ?

Be sure that template is GM or GS and NOT XG-Yamaha.

How does it sound :
a. Only one instrument (e.g. piano )?
b. multiple but wrong instruments ?
c. How do the drums sound ?

I connect synth to my PC. I turned local control off an set general midi option to 'external sequencer'. The I edit the file in pc (set volumes, pans, effects,...) and played back with Korg's sounds defined in computer software with Korg's instruments definition file downloaded from www.korgpa.com.

Then I copy the file to the synth. Turn local control ON, set general midi option to sequencer A (I stored this settings with Write global-midi setup). The playback is complete mess of sounds. The drums are not ok. 'Strange' Hi-hats and all others --> like You said: multiple but wrong instruments.

About template: which template do You mean...

It looks like you forgot to enter program-changes to set the wanted instruments on each channel.
Do you encounter the same problems while using other midifiles ?
In most midifiles the very first seconds the program numbers are set.
