I was too young when this came out to afford it, i only heard it in passing and it was one of those keyboards in the music shop that only the owner was alowed to touch and it was "wowed" every time it was turned on. Everybody wanted to own it.. Was it that good and ahead of its time? Did this also have 4 style variations? If so, why did Yamaha go back down to 2 for so long?

Danny...
This was the first arranger I ever really got excited about. For its day it had very good styles and a variety of them. The major downside for me were the piano voices. Just too thin...no guts.

As a result I used a two tier stand and put a Roland E-20 on top primarily for it pianos.

Yes. The 5700 was a great board. A very good feature was the solo option which when pressed would do a 8 bar solo in the last key chord you played. After the 8th bar you would just continue playing again.

Unfortunately Yamaha have never since added this solo feature. Another Oh!! that was a good idea...lets not use it again.

nice link Dnj, thanks for that!!

Graham, i know exctly what you mean about features that were great but were left out.. one feature i really loved on the PSR8000 was the Virtual Arranger where it added riffs and extra chord changes that really made the style so attractive. I remember especially the PopBallad style with this on, playing "When Will I See You Again" never sounded so lovely, so effective. I was absolutely gutted when it was removed in the 9000, another reason why i left Yamaha, where the PSR8000 being the last Yammy i owned...

I used to love thee features on the Ketron X1/SD-1 Bass Lock/Drum Lock ...it would allow you to hold the bass or drums within a particular variation and let you move to the next variation using the previous bass or drum line this was very kool and gave you so many options and combinations in real time.......also The VA7 would let you MORPH style parts also....I wish Yamaha would incoporate this into their KB's too.
