I'd like to get an idea of what SCSI devices people have tried with their PSR-9000/9000pro's.

EBAY has quite a few HD's, CD Readers, Jaz and Zip Drives for SCSI. I have no idea what to look for in specifications (pin ## [can you use adaptors??], SCSI-2 or SCSI-3, what is "wide" etc., etc.)

Any enlightenment would be most appreciated (model numbers and prices would be helpful!).

It looks like any SCSI Zip drive will work. The SCSI default number for the 9000 is 7 so as long as the external SCSI device is set for something other than 7, it should work (I recommend that you only try hooking up SCSI devices when they are turned off). The SCSI connection on the back of the 9000 is a SCSI-2 C50F (Centronic 50 female) and the SCSI connector on an Iomega Zip is a DB25F, so you'll need a cable and/or adapter combination that will be C50m on one end and DB25M on the other. This is a common SCSI cable or cable/adapter combo that you can get from any computer supply place (I think the SCSI Iomega Zip drives come with it). I haven't tried this yet but I will this weekend and will report back on how it works.

I don't have the PRO 9000 yet, still working on the deal but I can tell you what I use with the Ensoniq EPS 16 plus turbo Sampler.
I have in a pci slot in the back up computer for the recording studio an Adaptec SCSI 2 card feeding a scsi harddrive in the computer then feeds out to the sampler and then out of the sampler to another scsi hard drive dedicated to the sampler and it is Terminated. It has never been a problem once getting past the high initial expense. I hope to transfer this scsi over to the pro9000 when i get it.
ESH or anybody, what say you to that idea. Anyone see any problem with that. I think the Pc Internal hard drive is 6 GB and the external is a syquest removable disk 45mg. I am told the max hard drive is 8GB.

Yep, you're right... I'm used to Centronics because of their printer applications. The SCSI connector on the back of the 9000 Pro is an HD50. The Iomega Zip works very well... just hook it up and the 9000 recognizes it. The default cable and adapter that comes with the SCSI Zip drive is all that is needed. Heck, the 9000 even reads Zips formatted by the Roland G1000/EM2000. Simple.

So you're saying the cable that comes in the box when you buy a "new" Iomega SCSI Zip is a 25 pin (for Zip) to 50-pin HD50 (suitable for 9000/pro)???

Tha cable that comes with a SCSI Zip drive is 25 pin which fits in the drive. It also comes with an adapter that fits the 9000 Pro.

That's what I've just discovered; e.g., that you don't need to buy any separate cable or adaptor when you buy a new Zip 100, as they come with one for the 9000/pro size. That is a real consideration as the cable/adaptor can cost half the price of the Zip itself!
