I play an old Hank Thompson song "Six Pack To Go." I was listening to the recording today and I noticed that there's a verse where the vocal echo really is dramatically increased. I guess this was on purpose. Anyway, sounds cool. Is there a practical way to do this on the fly? Without a sound man. Or if not, what if you had a sound man, could he just dial it up?

You could do it with registration memories. I suspect that it was accidental on the recording though. I promise you he doesn't do it that way live.
I actually played this song while Hank Thompson sang it with me last summer. I had the lyrics and chord changes in my laptop and had made a notation of the speed (beats per minute) of the original recording. So I was ready for him, right?
Wrong. He was used to doing it MUCH faster, more of a boogie style. I had to stop, adjust the tempo and start over. After that though, it was great. He jokingly said that he wouldn't need his band any more.
He did a couple more of his hits also, including "Wild Side Of Life".

Speaking of Hank Thompson, any of you guys familiar with Thompson's novel renditions of nursery rhyme songs which he recorded and were big hits in the 50's: "Humpty Dumpty Heart" & "Rub A Dub Dub"? Believe it or not, my mom claims that I first sang (at 4) nursery rhyme songs from listening to our family's old 45 RPM record collection which included old Hank Thompson hits. DonM, any chance you can get ol Hank to come to the LA get together in Jan? - Scott

PS: I concur with DonM that different vocal efx settings (at least on Yamaha arrangers) can easily be set up & recalled (at will) via Registrations.

If anyone could get Hank Thompson to come, it would be Hank The Lurker, but I doubt it.
I WILL ask James Burton if he is in town.
