Ulrich, that is great, but whether, being a relative newcomer at this arranger keyboard, I'll ever be able to figure that our in real time is quite another thing!

I'm learning every day, though, and thanks for the tip. I'll work on it!

You don't always need to do that in realtime. I am sure Michael Voncken doesn't do that without practicing (I have seen him play like this on a video).

Oh no, it wasn't a video, I saw him playing live in Eindhoven (netherlands) and I sat next to the keyboard (Tyros) watching every move he made.

Of course, this mode needs some practise to manage - and you have to learn to play like a bass player. If you have done that earlier with a pedal board by foot, it'S easy.

There is a book available here in Germany, written by one of the creators of the AI Fingered Mode. It's called 'Styles and Patterns'. There are a lot of examples with detailled description which keys have to be pressed when to get the walking bass. If you are through that book, you ARE able to deal with that mode in realtime.

Ulrich, I'm interested in checking out the 'Styles & Patterns' book. Does this book include a lot of pictures & illustrations & Would it be very easy to comprehend thru the pics & illustrations alone? Is this book available in English?

Ulrich, if possible, please provide a link to where I might be able to obtain this book.

Many thanks,

Scott

Scott,

here comes the link:
http://www.ppv-shop.de/book.asp?uid=471630a66p249p64p50&lng=2&grp=47&idx=267

As far as I now, it' not available in English. I can try to scan one or two pages of the book and send them to you as an example.

Hi Ulrich, "Styles & Patterns" by Reinhold Pohnl, sounds like a highly informative book.

That would be TERRIC ! Please send to: scott@scottyee.com

HOW MANY pages are included in this book ?
Does it include many pictures & illustrations to make understanding its arranger 'A1 fingering' concepts & techniques easier to comprehend? I wonder how difficult it would be to translate the text to english?

After having searched on Google, I find this book available from
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=304135192

so perhaps, after having checked out your 'scanned pages' I will go ahead and purchase it from them. Now I just need to find someone who's proficient in German to help me out with the translation to English. - Scott

Ulrich, a great big Danke schön! to you for taking the time to scan & send the pages you sent. Excellent illustrative examples which seem pretty clear in showing which notes to play to give specific arranger chord recognition results. Now I need to take a crash course in German (reading) so I can understand the text details. At 100 pages, this sounds like an extensive book on arranger keyboard chording & patterns, though I didn't see any chapter section devoted to 'rootless' jazz style chords (fingered mode).

Thanks again Ulrich,

- Scott

You are welcome, Scott.

Sorry about, that you miss your favorite rootless chord stuff described also in the book. Next time when I will meet Reinhold (the author) again, I talk to him about your wish :-).

Ulrich, thanks very much for this info. I'll buy the book, if not in Holland, then via internet.
