All I can do is support everything said so far. I'd just like to re-emphasise that you should never fall into the trap that associates physical infirmity with mental collapse.

Treat your audience with respect, don't be afraid to try some more uptempo numbers; people can tap their feet mentally if necessary.

Enjoy!

You may find this interesting. http://www.elderlivingsource.com/search To narrow the search to your state, merely place a slash-mark after the word search, then type the abreviation of your state in caps. The list is huge, but then it's up to click on the additional information tab, call the facility, get the name of the activities director, send him or her a package, then follow it up with a phone call and finally a personal visit. This works, and anyone that has been on the NH circuit for any length of time will tell you that it's a great job that pays quite well.

Good Luck,

Gary

Please remember after all the hard work that Gary has mentioned still is NO Guarantee that after your First performance you'll be returning....why? because it all boils down what you do on stage while performing at the facility......
FIRST Impressions are everything the AD & The Residents will determine if you return for sure.........I would recomend going to see some of the top NH entertainers perform so you know what your up against.....ask the AD's when their favorites will be there & go sit in the audience observe & absorb.

Good Luck

Steve thanx.....

There is so much more to being a very "successful" NH entertainer then most people would think. If you approach it professionally, have the Talent, Perseverance, Patience to wait "sometimes"
1 or 2 months for your pay due to vouchers, w/monthly & bi-monthly pay schedules etc, it can be a very lucrative addition to your Main gigs for sure.

I'd like to personally thank all of the posters here for sharing their professional experience. I'm sure anyone considering going into retirement and/or nursing home entertainment will benefit from your sage advice.

God bless you all.
