Post the question in the Software Arranger Forum, as quite a few use or have used the program.

hey rikki!

i am curious how good are the result using the phrase library... did you try to compose a style from scratch with it? and can the library be updated with new midi phrases?

i'd be interested to get the roland's version, but then will i be able to import also some other style formats?

thanks!

Hi Adimatis,
Jay's got a manual on his site, I also thought he had a demo at one stage, but I could be wrong. http://www.keyboardstyles.com/stylefactory.htm

I haven't used it in a while, I keep getting sidetracked with other projects

Basically what you do is load in an existing style ( in your case Roland) then you replace the existing phrases with phrases from your library.

It comes with an existing phrase library to get you started, but the idea behind it is to create your own library of styles from various brands of keyboards ( Phrase Extractor)ie if you can get a hold of "original" psr, korg styles etc the program the program breaks the styles up into individual phrases, these phrases can then be imported into your Roland style. ie replace a roland piano phrase with a korg piano phrase (Style Arranger).

It can have it's downside. The phrases do have a fair bit of information about ie style source, length etc etc, so it can get a bit unweildly ie 1000's of phrases.
You can add some additional folders of your own to try & keep better track of them.

ie Intro's & ending phrases don't really work in a mix n match setup mainly because there's usually a chord progression involved. Only part that could be interchangeable would be drum tracks.

I created a seperate folder for the Intro's & Endings rather than having them mixed up in with the variations. Might be worth keeping fills seperate too.

Converting Intro's & Endings from other formats caused me some hassles with my sd1, mainly because the sd1 doesn't have list style editing. My psr was a bit less hassle as I'm able to use OMB software to fix up the odd note here & there.
