I thought.....cool when I bought my Motif GC gave up an Apex Ulrimate stand with it. Finally broke it out and set it up....put my MoES on it for about 30 seconds and took it right back off.

While the stand itself is stable putting a heavy board like the Mo even at sitting height is not. The Mo is well below the specs on Apex's page and if I just played in the center of the board that may be ok, but get out to either end and there's enough shaking that I'd have to chase the board to play it, not to mention the weight tilted the bracket immediately playing at one end or the other even though it was secured tight.

I then put my vibes up on it and they are real light and they shook out at the ends too when played although not as bad.

Nice looking and concept stand, but I thought useless for playing on.

Sorry to hear that, Terry. I have an Apex and have no problems using any of my keyboards, including a short stint with a PC88. Did you adjust the little foot at the base? And did you know that Ultimate sells a special set of longer bars and a more secure attach base for longer, heavier keyboards. I also like the boom that attaches to the side and closes up very compactly. Oh well....

I utilize the Ultimate Apex Plus model kb stand specifically for concert stage performance.
http://ultimatesupport.com/apexplus.html

I'm particualy pleased with it because it presents a most impressive professional looking (sleek) onstage visual appearance, and that it also provides more than adequate support for my 61 note Tyros keyboard, due to the fact that the new longer 18" tribars support the Tyros's full depth & width, extending all the way from the center rear of the kb all way out to its front left & right corners. Because of this, I experience little or no kb shake playing the 61 note keyboard from end to end. Another plus about the Apex stand is that its center colum doesn't obstruct any of the plugs, jacks, or the 'Yamaha Tyros' logo on the back of the keyboard. In addition, the color of the stand nicely complements the Tyros' silver & black color scheme.

The only quirky limitation of this stand I don't like is that it provides no support to the far upper left or upper right sections of the kb. For stage performance situations where the audience doesn't have free access to the kb, this poses no problem, but for bar type situations where the kb might be left vulnerably unattended in a location where reckless or drunk patrons might approach and subsequently lean or fall againest the keyboard , I would not recommend the Apex stand. For these venues I prefer the Quiklok Monolith or an X style stand. For concert or stage performance though, the Apex is my current #1 choice.

Perhaps with longer bars that would go to the corners this stand might work alright, but for stability of the heavier board, I'll keep my Quickloc Z stand.

The Tyros weighs less than half of what the Motif weighs and that may be the difference.

For what theses boards cost I was not willing to chance seeing it crash to the floor.

Playing 61 keys synth action out at the ends is quite different from 88 weighted action is.

Hmm, funny, I must have been play very light.

I use the Apex with the PA80 on top and the Yamaha S90 on the lower level... been doing that for awhile

Rhumba,
Well I can only say what happened when I put the Mo on it which is about 10#'s heavier than the S90 and a little longer and deeper. It was not at all stable on there.
