I mentioned in another thread that I keep one of my two PSR 740s in the trunk of my car. Don added that I must not live in Louisianna because there I would have a melted keyboard. I like the convenience of keeping my keyboard in the trunk of my car. In the below freezing weather I have to bring my keyboard into the house because the LED is unreadable when the keyboard is cold. Does anyone have any knowledge of what summer temperature is too hot for a keyboard and could melt things?

In the passenger compartment I realize it gets super hot because of the greenhouse effect, and I would never keep my keyboard there during the summer, but I thought the trunk would be safe.

Hey Beakybird, I live in Florida, so I definitely wouldn't try that, but it can get pretty warm in there, ask Jimmy Hoffa. Put a thermometer in the trunk and find out. Ah, roast keyboard, how delectable.

I'm sure the cargo hold of whatever ship that delivered your keyboard was NOT air-conditioned, and the truck that it came in to the dealer, no doubt stopped overnight in the south. I would'nt sweat it. Unless it was ME in the trunk. Trunks are made for cats and in-laws.

The reason I know that this can happen is that one of my friends melted the case of his Technics KN800 a few years ago.
I think he still has it, and it still works, but it is UGLY. I'm sure it's for sale, cheap.
His email is dickiet@shreve.net , but I don't believe he knows what temperature it reached.
Our temperature here is over 100 much of the summer. I can only imagine what it reaches inside a car trunk. Last week my son bought a plastic gadget that shows temperature for his car dash. After a few minutes sitting on the dash board it reached 125 degrees, as far as the little thermometer would read.

Well I guess if my PSR 740 ever gets twisted up by the heat, I'll wear it around my neck and play it like an accordion. So I won't worry.

If it were a 51-pound 9000 I might leave it in there, but the 740 you can tuck under your arm!
Just trying to be helpful.
Idle thought: I wonder, if a person isn't a professional musician, if such an event would be covered under home-owner's insurance. Probably not, because the guy I told you about is an insurance agent.

Prolonged temperature above 140 degrees F, will deteriate plastic, 180 degrees will deteriate soft soder points. 100 degrees deteriates the in shape player, and 80 degrees will deteriate Uncle Dave..

my keyboard outer body melted when i left it in the car. it looked like a smashed car. i forgot whether it was in the trunk or at passenger seat. i did not have a cover/protective case. i could not believe it could happenned but it did !!

it was an old inexpensive psr model keyboard that is probably made of similar material as the current psr 740 yamaha keyboards.
