As some of you may remember I returned my Tyros to Music123 because I felt like it was just too much money for my skills.

Well today I signed on Music123 and happened to see a used Tyros for only $1677, free shipping and a 45 day return policy... Well it was too much to resist so in a few days I will once again be a Tyros owner!!

The Casio MZ5000 is a pretty sweet board for only $500 but I'm looking very forward to having the Tyros again. If anyone is interested in the Casio board let me know.

TyrosOwner: It'll be really interesting to find out if you 'end up' getting back the same exact Tyros keyboard that you had sent back to Music123 earlier, but now at a substantially reduced price plus another 45 day return policy all over again to boot. Though I'm happy for you about your fortunate deal, it also seems unfair for Music123 (or any other music store) to have to absorb finanacial loss for 'returned' items that then need to be re-sold as a used. It will be especially ironic if you actually end up with the same keyboard you purchased from them originally. Please check and compare serial numbers and let us know.

Starkeeper,
Damn! A few months too late I just started the fall semester at WVSU, and threw a few pretty pennies into books. If he had that board when I bought my Casio WK-3500 I would have taken it. Tight on the funds currently because of school. I wouldn't mind having it though. It would make a great addition to my WK.

I understand what you are saying. The original Tyros I received from Music123 was also used as well and cost me $1999 plus shipping. Also as I've said before I didn't return the Tyros because I didn't like it.

I do understand what you are saying about it not being fair to Music123 but there was no pre-planning on my part to try and get a Tyros cheaper by sending the first one back. Also to be honest I had really missed the Tyros and often had second guessed my decision to send it back. I was suprised to see the Tyros for $1667 and felt like it was just too good to pass up.

I'm also not feeling too guilty because I buy plenty of gear through Music123 and purchased a new guitar and GNX4 Guitar workstation just this week. Plus if I don't buy the Tyros, someone else certainly will.

I'll definitely know if it is the same keyboard because the Tyros I sent back came to me with a small nick in the finish right below the registration buttons.

My Tyros arrived yesterday!! It is not the same Tyros I sent back to Music123 a few months ago.

While I'm very glad I got my hands on a Tyros for only $1667, it definitely has a bit of a downside that I wasn't expecting. No manuals, no software, no USB cable, and no music stand. All I got was the Tyros and a 6 foot power cable.

Manual is no big deal because I have the PDF anyway. USB cable is not a big deal because I have an extra. Not having the music stand is a bit of a bummer but definitely something I can live with.

The real issue though is that I definitely am needing to get the software to hook the Tyros up to the PC. I went to Yamaha's site but it doesn't appear you can download it from there.

Any ideas on where I could download the Tyros software from?

I always use an adjustable music stand anyway. Even when I had my first Tyros I never used the music holder that came with it.

Sorry Don .... I never use 'em, so I don't pay attention to where they go after the box is opened! I especially didn't like the Tyros one ... it sat too high and was too flimsy - you're not missing anything !

No problem. Mostly wanted it for when I re-sell. But that won't be for quite awhile.

This brings up a topic that deserves mentioning briefly.

I think that unless you plan on owning/keeping a keyboard for life that you owe it to the next owner to keep all components that come with a keyboard. I do it by nature but I have found that others don't. Discarding a part that comes with an instrument just because you don't use it or think it's important is not just inconsiderate but it devaluates the keyboard significantly.

I recently bought a Yamaha 9000 Pro from UD that he described as "mint condition". It was my fault that I assumed that description meant for the keyboard and all factory-provided components, but when the keyboard arrived it was missing several factory items, most importantly the music stand which is a critical and nearly irreplaceable part for me. The music stand is not a seperate accessory item but one that comes with the instrument from Yamaha and is unique to the 9000 Pro. Dave had discarded it, but not completely - it took about a month for him to find it in his kitchen utensils (from moving). Once I got the music stand it was scratched and beaten up - not at all in the same condition as the keyboard. The music stand is a very visible part of the instrument and it was a terrible let down to see this beautiful shiney like-new keyboard with an abused stand on it. I'm working to replace it now - but I've learned that other people don't value everything that comes with a keyboard as I would... so next time I will ask detailed questions about what comes with my purchase before buying from anyone, even from this forum.

At the same time - you should keep and protect all factory components to a keyboard as a basic courtesy to the next owner and to retain the instrument's value. What you don't use or care about may be a vital component for the next owner, especially if you intend to "rotate" keyboards often. I don't want to get into a debate with Dave over this (we had several private ones already) so I've made my point and would just as soon drop the subject.

I agree with the observation about protecting your keyboard for future owners. I've "rotated"/sold a bunch of boards over the years. All were in mint condition, original boxes, no tears in plastic package with manuals---right down to the twisty-ties on cords, etc. All this helped them move fast. Just sold a 2100 like a breeze.

Boy do I agree with this! I have always done the same. I keep all original packaging, manuals, cords, etc. In the past year I have been selling a lot of my equipment on eBay. Alesis SR-16, Ketron XD3, Line6 POD 2.0, Fender Strat, etc. ON two of the auctions I actually received more for my used instruments than they could be purchased for new. I never really understood this; either the buyer didn't research the product very well, couldn't use a credit card for online purchases, etc. But I actually sold all of the equipment for only around $100 less than I paid for it all cumulatively.

It's a little different for me, though, than a lot of you. I use everything in my home studio and it stays in mint condition. When I gig it's usually just my acoustic accordion and even when I used the midi accordion and XD3 there was very little wear and tear (I buy the travel case for everything).

It's different when you use something every day onsite and have to transport it often.

But in my experience keeping things mint and keeping all packaging really makes the difference. I usually take about 6 VERY detailed digital pictures and my equipment sells much faster and for much more than the same item with the stock manufacturer picture and the word "mint".

Next up for sale will be a mint Yamaha AW16G DAW. Looks like I'll be going Motif ES8 and using it's sampling capability to record my accordion.

Just a standard adjustable music stand that you would see in any band room. I like it better because I can move it to the side when I'm playing guitar, trumpet or sax.

Dave are you still using the Yamaha music racks for clothes hangers?
Why don't you send Don his music rack, I have an extra hanger to replace the Yamaha hanger..
Didn't you use the Pro 9000 rack to barbecue the ribs at your picnic?

Funny you should mention that ..... I was over at Danny's today and mentioned the music rack issue, and he ran to his closet and pulled Don's out ! Last time he looked, he couldn't find it - guess you have to deal with that stuff when you have a brain tumor, huh?

Anyway - I emailed Don and as soon as I get the address again .... I'l ship my second music rack out!

Fourtunately, when I sold these last two keyboards, I advertised the keyboard honestly, and made no implied references to any add-on or factory supplied extras. I sold what I had - in the condition advertised.

Now I guess I'll drop this private conversation too.
