This is from the Bose FAQ site "The optimum number of Cylindrical Radiator® loudspeakers that a band should use depends on a number of factors including instrumentation, style, required volume, typical stage & venue size etc. However there is something very special about every player having their own system that goes beyond finding the best sounding setup at a given venue.
Owning an individual setup gives you total control over your sound. You can take your system wherever you go, and you play through the exact same system every single time. It’s your sound during rehearsal, at home in the basement, during a recording session, or on stage when you perform. No matter what you do, you always get the same consistent results. Now you can carefully craft your sound anyway you want and you can be confident that this sound is delivered to you, your fellow musicians and to the audience in the exact same way every time.
It makes also setup & teardown really simple. You are responsible for your own setup but nothing else. There are no interconnections between individual systems and you don’t need to know any details about your fellow player’s gear and vice versa. Setting up your own system is natural and quick because it’s easy to do and you are as familiar with it as you are with your instrument. When you use an individual Cylindrical Radiator® system that’s not shared with anyone, it can become an extension of your instrument. Your instrument and your Personalized Amplification System™ setup become an integral part of your sound and your artistic expression."
Firehead, I don't think there would be any benefit by running a keyboard into a pair of PAS systems, and because of the way the sounds are disbursed, I don't think there would be a stereo effect--just a louder mono sound becaue of the increased wattage. Keep in mind that stereo seems to work best with conventional sound systems, and only those individuals positioned within a triangular area relative to the left and right speaker locations can really benefit from the stereo effect. With the PAS system and its equalateral distrubution of sound, it seems like it would be nearly impossible to achieve a stereophonic effect.
Good Luck,
Gary
