Geez, too bad his chops aren't for sale. That might be a worthwhile purchase!

How can we be sure it's his ? ... wouldn't it be put for sale at a private auction ?? ...
Recently a B-B-Q grill was on e-bay, supposedly owned by a major league baseball player ... come to find out it wasn't his at all ...

I wouldn't believe it unless it came with some sort of verifiable documentation ... that I don't see with this.

Until then it is just another piano.

You mean just another $10,000 piano. lol

You realize of course that this being an old upright places this as pre-depression. There were hundreds of piano companys in this country before the depression.

By the looks of it, I think someone would be happy to sell it for $250.

around here you'd be lucky if you didn't have to pay someone 250 to haul it away

Gotta be careful with some of these auctions. Scam artists will use anything they can and say whatever they can to make a buck. You could post s snotty tissue and say Paris Hilton used it while in jail, and some numbskull would buy it.

This auction might be legit. I'd check out the history of this seller though. I don't understand why so many people today consider these old uprights junk. I think there were many beautiful upright cabinet grands produced in the early 1900's. Our family had a 1903 C. Kurtzmann Upgright. That piano was one of the most beautiful pianos I've seen. It had amazing scroll carvings, and floral patterns throughout the case. Actually I've never seen another Kurtzmann with so much scroll work as the one we owned.

I've been in the business for over 30 years. The problem with these old uprights is that they're by now all in not that great of shape and to fix them would cost a lot more than they are worth.

Also, a student playing one that is not in good shape is not really a great idea for the student's development.

For $200 someone can get a Yamaha PSR-E403 or YPT-400, same instrument. The 403 is for the MI stores and the 400 is for chain department stores, Best Buy etc. This would be a lot better choice in today's age instead of the crummy upright that I started on as a kid that actually hindered my playing.

It really depends on the person though. I collect antiques so trashing a late 19th or early 20th century upright isn't what I'd do.. Here's why.. check out this link--grab a something to wipe the drool up with Restoring an upright isn't throwing your money away. These pianos have a lot of history to them.

I'll have to check that site out later, Squeak, but that was the one thing I didn't mention. The word antique. Some people will view certain things in this way and they can be worth a lot of money then. BUT, as a musical instrument, the same things would be worth next to nothing. Two different worlds
