after korg pa 80/60 , roland va 76 va7,
i brought home a roland exr . it was to
entry level for me so i took it back and exchanged it for a yamaha psr 1100 for its
on the fly edit buttons. anyway i took it over to my partners house to show her how easy it was to operate. well, she loved how it works and she is looking at ordering one
from sam ash . i told her i would take the psr1100 back and apply what i paid for it to the tyro purchase. we use arranger type playing
with other keyboards for enhancement.
ok, here's my question. i would like to hear
what you don't like about it AS WELL as
what you like about it . we will be using it on stage. so i would like some feedback on
how well the keyboard works for you live performers. are any of you using this as a
single? thanks for any feedback.

Hi Dave,

The Tyros is an excellent Arranger for Live play. The Key feel and action is a lot better imo than either the PSR 1100 or 2100.

You can install an internal Hard Drive and store all your songs, third party Styles, etc. The Tyros does not load .wav, aiff, or akai samples. The internal user memory is 3.3 mb's. The voices (sounds) excel both the PSR 1100 or PSR 2100 and most likely the new PSR 3000 coming out in mid July. But of course your paying extra for those privileges and better sounds. If you can wait awhile for the PSR 3000 to come out you may find that it suits your needs every bit as well as a Tyros would. If you can't necessarily wait, the Tyros will be more than adequate as a high end Arranger that is great for Live! play IMO

Best regards,
Mike

Tyros is the best arranger I have owned to date except for the elimination of the scat voices that my PSR 9000 had.

I use mine in the studio daily. Scott uses his for live play every day. So I think it equally useful for both situations.

Probably the only thing I don't much care for is the sound quality out of the speakers without another onboard speaker option of better quality sound. The Tyros speakers miss the mids big time. Doesn't really matter that much to me because I run it to near fields anyway or an amp, but they could have given more options for them.

Screen, user interface, styles, sounds all get a solid 10 in my book.

it seems like the tyros needs a look. with
a 1895.00 price on the psr3000 the tyros
at aroud 2500.00 would be a logical move.
money is not an issue. ease of use, sounds,
and stableness of the keyboard (oh yea,
keyboard feel, right can't they change. is a
good keybed that much more costly? ). i been
spending too much time programming and would
like to focus more on playing. i notice that
this psr1100 sounded pretty good for a 1000.00 keyboard out of the box. my partner
like the psr1100 on stage she thinks she'll
love the tyros. i'm thinking of going the software and laptop route in addition to the
tyros on stage. hmmmmmmm. i'm so grateful that this is our worse problem. oh, btw, i'm still using the korg i series as the base
style keyboard. i would like to see the
newer keyboard replace this. i would be
playing it thru a mackie and 2 jbl's.

I also miss the scat voices of the PSR9000. Why did Yamaha remove them from the Tyros?

Hi,
I would like to know your comparative opinion about both kbs, and why you changed exr and get 1100.
Thanks

the exr has great sounds but:
styles were nice but new styles could only
be loaded and played 1 at a time.

very limited live mixing capabilities,for
example when you play a midi file the channel controls were grouped in sections.
not practical for me. for example you had volume control over midi channel 9 thru 16
with 1` button not individual channel control. it didn't make sense to me.
you can load in styles from the va 5, va7,
(1 at a time) and they played ok.
i loved the size, sound and yes, a great
keyboard feel. please remember, that i've
had every arranger out there so i might be
a little harsh on this keyboard but for the
price its nice.
now for the reason i went with yamaha 1100
(got 2100 now) and my duo ordered a tyros yesterday.
1. operating system (alot easier )
2. style writing from scratch (very important)
3. sounds(actually i like the roland better)
matter of preference
4. this is a biggie with me: information,
support on the web, tons of access to styles programs etc.
i just downloaded the tyros manual. the similarity between the tyros and other psr
units are basic so the learning curve is small.
last weekend i use the psr1100 live with my other keyboards and tweaking> this keyboard was no problem. i actually had fun playing and entertained the crowd without have to worry about hitting the wrong button . these keyboards are fairly
easy to understand . but its early and with the addition of the tyros on stage we will see. i'm still considering using a laptop
and software to answer my arranger needs on stage. alot less expensive. hope this helps
