Hi all

I am thinking of buying speakers for my psr9000 and after reading several posts on different speakers you have all experienced. I have decided the Ev is the way to go. However I was told the older series Ev S200 where a better speaker beacuase of the horn. Is this true, can you please give me your experiences and preferences on which speaker you think would be the best choice for running a keyboard through. 300 watts rms is what i am after. Need a clean sound.
Thanks.

Ali

I would suggest you take your 9K to the store , set it up, and play a few different speakers at FULL VOLUME to see if they or perhaps another brand are the ones for your needs and equipment.

Ali,
the s200 was no where NEAR as efficient as the newer sx series. They both have good horns, but the SX has deeper, more powerful bass because of the shape of the cabinet. The s200 was popular 20 years ago because of it's very narrow shape, but it was intended for VOCAL reproduction back then. No one knew how the kb world would evolve so fast, and it just doesn't compare to the new series. the s200 was very "mid" heavy.
I have a pair of the SX300's for sale if you want a super deal on them. They take 300watts each and are brand new. I bought them because of the GC closeout. (They lost the EV line)email me for a price - you can get the 300's for the same price as the 200's ! If you want powered - then I recommend the sxA100's - lots of us are enjoying them also !The sx300's sound better, and make more volume but require a separate amp and mixer.

The Mackie SRM450 powered speakers are very good. I used to use the EV SX500's for 2 years and a seperate amp etc but since the Mackies are lighter I prefer them.
Check them out but EV stuff rocks too

I bought two of the Ev x 2000 powered speakers and they are durable and sound great. I play at a Knights Of Columbus hall each month and some VFW's and American Legion Post, and many of the members have asked if i bought a new keyboard or microphone because they say that there is a big difference in the quality of the sound. That's all i have to hear. They also sound great to me, so at least i'm nbot alone in the evaluation. Good Luck, Bob

Thanks Guys

Your comments have hepled. But I have another question? I am curios how many watts rms are the powered EV sxA100 speakers. Would they handle a crowd of 300 people. Do i need to use a subwoofer for bottom end.
Thanks again

Ali,
150 watts for the bass/mid 80 watts for the high I believe (it may be 180/50) but that's very close. That was my first concern when I bought them. I thought they were 300 watts for the lows/100 for the high, because EV lists only those numbers in their advertising, and refers to them as Dynamic watts which translates into "peak" wattage. I should have looked closer and understood. However, when you get them out and about, they really do push alot of air and sound great. I bought a Mackie Subwoofer to compliment the EV's only for the DJ type music on CD. For acoustic playing/vocal...the eV's themselves are excellent and I believe plenty for a banquet hall setting for 300 people. Unless you're planning on blasting the room with punk/rock and roll. That's another story. Good Luck..B2

The sxA100 is actually rated at 350 watts for the bottom, but that IS in fact a peak rating, and not continuous. The Mackie 450's also "bend" the truth in this area, because only the amp section is capable of delivering 300 watts to the bottom end - the speaker is not the proper ohmage to allow full power to the woofer, so you are really getting closer to 150-175 watts for lows on the mackie. They sound great, but it's not 450 "real" watts .... it's just POSSIBLE to get that power rating, but not in the factory configuaration.
Speaker ratings are pretty subjective across the board, so use your ears and not your eyes when you buy speakers, and remember:
To get TWICE the volume, you need TEN TIMES the power. It's a logrythmic calculation and is not as plain as it sounds.
A 200watt amp is only 10% louder than a 100 watt amp, so it's not a night and day difference between 150 and 300 watts. More headroom, yes .... but not neccisarily more sound, or better sound either.

Anybody has experience with Yamaha MS300 or MS400? How do they sound compared to EV and JBL?

Thanks
