Anyone know what this means ? Anybody have any idea how many hours it would take a tech to fix this?

Kind of a generic knowledge base article but it does have a few tips at the bottom.

Good luck!

Boo,
Turn the compuer off, reboot, then do a scan disk, disk defragmentation and see if the problem persists. If it does, you'll probably have to reinstall Internet Exporer.

Gary the scan disk gets to 91% and keeps starting over. I'm at my wits end.

Have you recently run any spyware removers like AdAware? If so let me know. There's a known issue in which AdAware inadvertently messes up your network connection while deleting certain registry entries.

Boo,

Go into the DOS window, and type chkdsk, then type exit, go back to the system programs and run Disk Defragmenter first. It may take several shots for it to get past all the garbage. Make sure you place a check in the box that says Automatically Fix Errors. This may do it.

Boo,

You must make certain that all programs are closed before you start the defragmentation process. Do alt+ctrl+del (the three fingered salute) and close everything but explorer first, then start defrag.

Boo,
sounds like you are running windows 98 or ME ??

try scandisk /f at the command promtt. THEN reboot. Once the scan completes, it should recover any lost sectors, and you should be OK.
This is your Internet Explorer browser dying - not too gracefully !!
It's possibly caused by a conflict with other software.
Did you change anything recently ?
Did ya apply any MS patches or service packs ?
Did you add any new programs/software or device drivers ?
IS this a first time error condition or has this been going on a while ?

Regards,
Steve

Chris A

I've run AdAware & SpyBot recently and I think one of them screwed up my laptop. It no longer can go into "suspend" mode. Actually, it goes to sleep fine, and will wake up fine, but then in about a minute or two, everything is frozen solid. Only way out is to hold down the power switch and force it off. Do you know anything about this?

If you are running Windows and it seems to be getting bogged down check out what has been installed to startup everytime you boot your PC.

Just click on Start->Accessories->System Tools->System Info
Then from the Tools menu select System Configuration Utility and then click on the Startup tab. You will then see a list of programs that are automatically started each time you boot your PC. You can uncheck the box next to any program to stop it starting up. Leave any that are in the the Windows folder as they are not a problem, and leave any you think you may need. But disabling programs here is not a problem as you can always come back and re-enable any that you really do want to startup. There may be all sorts of junk listed that you don't need and may be causing slowdown.

Just a tip for anyone that didn't know how to do this.
