I plug the cable that came with my usb drive in the back of the keyboard to eliminate the wear and tear caused by switching between the drive and the computer. It's cheaper to replace the cable than repair the socket in the back of the keyboard. Also it does not stick out as far and allows me to do all the swapping in front of the keyboard. I also use the smartmedia card as a backup. Few people seem to realize that flashdisk "wear" each time it is read/written to.
They only guarantee 10 000 read/writes on the cheaper ones.

When the SM card wears out ..... throw it out and load up an new one. This is a disposable society, and kbs and computers are the worst offenders.
I doubt that I'll write 10,000 times on this anyway ..... heck - I may not PLAY this thing 10,000 times! That would suggest that I have to actually keep it for a few months, right ?

I did some quick calculations on the use of the flash drive.

20 songs per set X 4 sets = read 80 times minimum in an evening.

80 times 4 days per week = 240 times

240 times 52 weeks = 12480 times.

This is not counting the times used to program and save registrations, changes made to the registrations, practice time etc.

Better have a backup with you at all times.

Oh, you mean ACCESS! I thought you meant writing to and copying from the drive.
Boy, that'd suck if it wears out in just a year or so.
Where'd you hear that statistic, Jer???

Dave,

You're right.

I may have to stand corrected.
The ads state anywhere from 10,000 to 1,000,000 cycles depending on brand and quality. In tryng to find the data to support what a cycle consists of, I have read conflicting reports from various sources, however most manufacturers state write/erase cycles.
