Playing to a group of musicians seems to me to be a daunting task, but that is just what Scott Yee did yesterday afternoon. Scott faced some 40 keyboard and organ players in Avila Beach, California accompanying himself on his new Tyros keyboard. He moved around the Tyros as if it were an old friend, responding to a few TOTALLY off the wall requests without missing a beat. His two hour program seemed to zip by in minutes. He was besieged by questions from many of the pros in the audience. In the end the most frequently asked question was “Scott, when can you come back?”

Hi all,

Having a terrific time in Central & Southern California finally meeting (in person) and playing music with Synthzone members Frank Bez, Paul Curzan, and Eric Bott.

What a pleasant surprise to discover that both Paul & Eric drove over 100 miles to attend my concert the Central Coast Organ & Keyboard club in Avila Beach, CA. Special thanks to Frank for his generous hospitality and assistance in making for a very satisfying gig. The room acoutics and ambience was ideal. Frank is not only talented musicially, but did you know that he has photographed MANY hollywood stars and musicians including Duke Ellington, which were also featured covers of best selling magazines.

Today, I drove further south to Santa Barbara and spent a terrific afternoon jamming with Paul & Eric (and his wife Claudia). It was fun comparing the 9000pro and the Tyros. I think Eric wants a Tyros now. It really is a special treat to finally meet and play music with Synthzone members, and to finally transform cyber friendships into one to one friendships. Andrea, wish you were here.

Scott, please don't rub my wound; I am sad already on my own for not being there.
A big hug to you, Claudia, Eric, Evelina, Frank and Paul (in alphabetical order!)
Hope to make it to California later this year, who knows...

I'll post some pics when I return home later this week. In the meantime, I'm hanging & relaxin' in the beautiful beach resort town of Santa Barbara . . . the California Riviera.

Anyone looking for a good buy on an almost new Tyros, you've got one day to make the deal. I also have a good buy on a pair of EV speakers. All this is courtesy of Scott Yee (trusting soul) who left his equipment in our garage while he's playing tourist in Santa Barbara.

We certainly enjoyed meeting Scott up at Avila on Sunday where we took in his concert. Then yesterday afternoon we hosted a musical get-together at our home. In addition to Scott, we had Eric Bott and his wife (she joined us after work), a sax/clarinet playing friend of mine who joined in on the jamming, three musician friends who came to listen and check out the various arranger keyboards, and last but not least, my wife who was the social hostess and did some video taping.

We had a very nice afternoon of music. We got to enjoy Scott's playing and singing in a very relaxed environment. He's quite a talented fellow for sure and I really apprecited Scott's piano virtuosity. (I'm still finding surplus roots all over our carpet from those rootless chords that were flying around our family room.)

This past weekend was my first chance to hear the new Tyros live and I must say it's a nice sounding board. All in all, it was a very enjoyable time and we look forward to doing something like this again - for sure when Andrea pays his next visit.

Hi Gang,

it's time for me to join the discussion.

As Scott, Paul and Frank already mentioned we a had a blast.
Wish you were here Andrea ......

Scott really knows his stuff and those rootless cords do make quite a difference.

As a matter of fact, it made such a difference, that Paul almost gave up on his KB playing.
I had to talk to him for a while otherwise he would have sold his KB for good....
(probably to get a Tyros )

My wife Claudia joined in after work and sang some great Standards with Scott like Unforgetable...

BTW Paul can't sell Scott's Tyros!!
When he wasn't looking I got it out of the Garage with my other stuff. He thought I was taking my Pro, but you better check your garage Paul before Scott gets back.......

It's always great to meet and jam with other Synthzone members; or better family.

Eric

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

Finally got back home. I had a terrific time in Central/Southern California, performing, meeting, and playing with my Southern California Synthzone buddies. I really enjoyed the opportunity to see Eric play his Yamaha 9000pro and Paul on his Solton MS60. Eric really shines on contempo pop rhythms & disco, and Paul delivers the goods when it comes to the traditional stuff: the MS60 banjo sounds outstanding. I especially enjoyed playing with Paul's clarinetist friend Art: Great improviser. It was also fun to have Eric's 9000pro & my Tyros SIDE by SIDE to play & compare. Both are great boards, but just in DIFFERENT ways. To top this off, it was a pleasure to perform together with Eric's wife Claudia the song: Unforgettable, as well as hear Eric & Claudia showcase their duo song material.

Bebop: sorry I couldn't meet up with you and Jann in Pismo Beach this weekend. Had to get back home in time to do my Valentine's Day gigs.

Donny. It was truly a BLAST!

Unfortunately, at my concert in Avila Beach (because I was on stage), I wasn't able to take any pictures . I wish I could've though, because the building (built of wood & stone) with beautiful beamed ceilings, has a large fireplace, and hard wood floors, making it (both visually & acoustically) an ideal performance venue.

On the other hand, here's a link to some pictures I took at Frank's place in Avila Beach, as well as a few pics I took at the get together at Paul Curzan's house in Goleta:
http://www.pbase.com/scottyee/synthzone&page=2

Here also are some 'video capture' images of the video Paul's lovely wife, Evelina, recorded of our get together jam (2/10) which included musicians: Paul, Eric & Claudia Bott, Art, and myself:
http://www.pbase.com/scottyee/paulcurzan_jam http://www.pbase.com/scottyee/paulcurzan_jam&page=2

I now look forward to the opportunity of meeting and playing music (in person) with more Synthzone forum buddies in the future. Thanks again to Nigel for creating the opportunity for all this to happen. I realize that without the Synthzone forum, we would probably have never met. I really encourage others to take the step to meet other forum members 'in person' (but at your own risk of course) as well. I look forward to jamming again, as well as finally meeting (in person) MANY other of you Synthzone forum member buddies around the world out there. Thumbs up to the Synthzone Arranger KB forum, quite simply, the BEST place on the internet for arranger keyboardists.

Scott

Thanks for sharing the fotos Scott. Looks like a ton of fun.
Sorry to hear you can't join us in Pismo Beach. We will have a ball there playing for the natives. I usually get a street dance going there in the rv park but prolly not this time as it looks to be a tad on the damp side. Oh well.
That will give me some free time to study this PSR9000 and learn more about it and maybe even get all my stuff (thanks everyone) onto the hard drive. The KN6000 Technics stays out of the mix this trip.
I got the Motorhome nearly loaded and getting anxious to boogey, south bound and truckin
Happy Valentine's Day to all lovers and your lovers.

Tony, I can speak to some of the equipment, since I had my own sound system set up in our family room and the other guys tied into that.

I have a Peavey Unity Series 1000 8-channel mixer driving a Carvin Model FET 450 Power Amp. (225 watts per channel into 4 ohms)
The stand mounted speakers were Peavey Model
358-5 three way's with 15 inch LF speakers.

I use a Shure Model PE 56D mic.

Scott ran his Tyros directly into my mixer, with his EV mic feeding into the Tyros.

Eric ran his 9000 Pro and two mics into his Mackie mixer and from there through my mixer.

I'll let Scott and Eric comment on details of their equipment beyond this.
Paul C.
