Each successor has better resolutiuon I think. Didn't the models all improve in the bit rates?

My Friend has VS-1880, I only used it for about 10 minutes(that`s how musch i know about them). Is 1824 over 1880 0r 1880 over 1824? Or does 1824 has effects built in?
What about the tracks on 1824 are they all mono or are there 4 stereo?
