The SD1 records maj, min, 7th - maj7 min7 and a couple combinations not spelled out clearly in the manual. My problem is that I record something for a pattern in maj and something different from maj7 - but both patterns trigger when I play a maj chord or a major 7 chord - can someone tell me my error?? I wish the manual was a bit more detailed about this.
Yes I did - I struggled mighty hard with a decision to not buy the VA76 - but by the time I had read for months about arrangers - in particular listening to folks on this board - talking to the company and reading their VA promo ads - I began to feel that the Roland capabilities were not the direction I was going.
As a musician whose primary focus has not been the re-creation of songs and dance tunes - but the interpretation of instrumental tunes as jazz/piano bar players do - I still have a large adjustment curve to negotiate - As U Dave said months ago - it is difficult with an arranger to approximate the dynamic of a jazz combo. Nontheless - as I spend late nites- one after the other - learning - I am slowly developing some ideas of how to adjust me - and the instrument to a workable solution.
I am also encouraged by feedback from Sandro of Ketron re: my ideas about incorporating the use of pre-recorded passages to be triggered seamlessly during arranger play.
I'd like to thank anyone reading this for the opinions and ideas which came my way during my search for what turned out to be the SD1. I do wish it had real piano action -but all in good time. It is simply - a phenomenal instrument - and I believe that arrangers will truly continue to offer solo piano players far greater opportunity for public performance than they have enjoyed for quite some time.
