Chords for a song I wrote.

Quote:
Code:
Verse:
Em D C B
Em D C B
Em D C B
Em D C B Em

Chorus:
Em D C D Em
Em D C D Em

I confuse myself. What key is this in? I could say key of Em, since it sets the tone of the song from the getgo, but I dunno. If it fit's key of Em, uh, what's the scale for Em? How would I write the numbers?

Key of G? If so, I could write that. The verse would be:

Quote:
Code:
6m 5 4 3
6m 5 4 3
6m 5 4 3
6m 5 4 3 6m

How would you write it?

The chord progression above definitely makes the song in the key of E minor.
What do you mean by numbers, you've got me lost there?

Nashville Numbers system. Dreamed up years ago by Nashville session cats who do not read staff music.

Such as... key of C:

c, d, e, f, g, a, b
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Basically, that's it. You can write numbers instead of chords and if you want to transpose from key of E to Eb or D or whatever, no problem, the musicians (assuming they know the scales) can play it.

It's used so that everbody is on the same page and can be understood. So, if I have to chart this in E-minor... uh... punt.

I think a lot of people would write it in key of G as I did. Just wondering what others think. I don't even know the E-minor scale.

I know enough to be dangerous.

Yes, the tone of the song is definitely Em. Even the chorus does not leave Em as the base chord.

Also a Del Shannon progression from early 60's.

Make sure the B is a seventh chord. B7
