Looks like the same folk are back on Ebay
offereing a brand new Tyros for $1,250. The
Ebay add does not show Buy Now but I emailed
them and was told I could buy for $1.250.
It seems they now are using account name of
Discman, and show area to be Hampton Va. But
their email to me once again says they are now in Spain. The letter is exact except now
they use name Edwards Rioss instead of
Patricia Lanphear.

Your going to love this: I told seller I
would only give him a Bid of $1,100 for the
new Tyros, and he assured me that I would win.
He of course wants my Bid money as good
faith that I'm a legitimate bidder. I quote
" After you pay, you can bid " This time I asked where I can send my money, and to whom
I should make it payable. Looks like names
have changed again. I'm supposed to send a
Money Gram to:
Name: Purcea Giani Alin
Address: Calle General Ricardos
No. 1 4B
Madrid , Spain 28820
I bet this is some type of P.O.Box-do
we have any Members in Spain ??

I thought you all might want an update. The following is ebays response to my email along with my response to them.

The auction is still online, and judging by what I was told in their email, I believe they thought I was refering to the previous bogus auction.

Hello

I wanted to make sure you understood my previous email.. Since the auction I am now refering to is still listed, I presume you thought I was talking about the previous auction that you removed from ebay. The following is the NEW auction with the same problem. It just turns out someone else on the Synthzone forum spotted this first this time and this is a whole different thread from the previous auction.

This is why I will not shop on ebay. It's just too risky if you ask me. There are so many jerks out there just taking peoples money. Everything I ever sold on the web was outside of ebay. I was always up front and honest with people I sold to. I gave them good contact information, and all my trasactions went well. The only place I'd buy from today (from sites outside Music123 ect) would be from the members here on the Zone.. I've been a member here for some time now, and post here often. I even sold to members before. I think it's much safer here.

You're right about safety, but the market is considerably smaller. All on line sales involve risk. Take the path with the fewest for your mindset.

Hello

This auction has been discontinued. Thought you all might want an update and a bit of interesting info from ebay:

Hello Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to submit this information to eBay.

As you suspected, the recent items listed with this account appear to be
the result of an unauthorized account takeover. Unfortunately, we were
not aware of this activity until some time after the listings appeared
on the site. Once we became aware of this activity, immediate action was
taken. We are now in the process of restoring the account to its true
owner. At this time the transaction in question should be considered
null and void.

Let me suggest a few ways this could have occurred.

If the user had a relatively simple password or password hint question
it is possible that a third party was able to gain access to the account
by guessing the password.

It is also possible that the user could have unknowingly provided his or
her password to another party. Some eBay members have reported receiving
messages asking for User IDs and passwords. These messages appear to
come from eBay Support, but in fact are not. eBay will never ask for
sensitive information of this nature through email.

Finally, there are a number of computer viruses in circulation that log
and record keystrokes. It's recommended that computer users keep their
virus alert software up-to-date, and check their system often for
problems. A firewall for high-speed Internet users is also highly
recommended.

Please be aware that eBay urges caution when purchasing high-priced
items, especially if the price seems too good to be true.

We do not recommend the use of instant cash wire transfer services such
as Western Union and MoneyGram, and we ask that users decline sending
payment in cases where these are the only methods of payment offered by
the seller. Generally, if payment is sent using an instant cash wire
transfer service and the item is not delivered as promised, no recourse
is available for recovering funds. In most cases, a verified escrow
service should be used when purchasing high dollar value items. More
information on the benefits and risks of individual payment methods can
be found at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/payment.html

Thanks again for writing, and thank you for being part of the eBay
community.

Regards,

Gibson

I couldn't help but get a chuckle from the following Ebay statement:

"We do not recommend the use of instant cash wire transfer services such
as Western Union and MoneyGram,"

Of course not!! As you may know, Ebay bought out PayPal and is a known cash cow for Ebay.

hehehe
