Hey,
I added a set of these Bose speakers to my Tyros and WOW what a difference! I have the original Ty speakers and this new pair of Bose, so that they all sound now.

The Bose are great all range speakers that give an unbelievable ambiance to the sound.

I purchased the Bose Media Mates a few years ago and connected them to one of my computers. They sounded good but I noticed they couldn't handle real high volume without distorting and they had no surround capability which I found out after the fact, and so I took them back. Maybe they have improved the quality and capability over the years though.

I use a pair of Altec Lansing ADA 305's/w subwoofer with my PSR 2000 when not using my Big Guns, ie., my Pioneer HPM-100's. They fazed out the ADA 305's over 3 years ago but I still find them more than adequate to supplement my PSR 2000 speakers. It's amazing how the quality of sound improves with just these small speakers and a Sub although the PSR 2000's speakers are great by themselves in a small setting or for practicing.

Best regards,
Mike

Mike,
I found the distortion a bit tricky when I first plugged in, it seems it's a balancing act between the main volume of the Ty and the volume of the media mates. I just got them last night, so I am still playing with them, but after a few minutes with them I was able to eliminate the distortion except at the highest volumes.

My whole concept here is to try and break away from the subwoofer and have an all range sound at ear level.....in a very small package.

Well don;t run out and buy a pair of these yet....the jury is still out deliberating as Mike pointed out at hgiher volumes they do distort.....so I'm still testing and thinking, because they sound soooooo good at mid volume levels.

Hey Terry, the Bose's look very nice indeed. But before you make up your mind take a look at these.
http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=621&sID=2

I've talked about them here before. I have them connected to the 9000Pro. They cost about $160.00 at Circuit City (2 speakers + 1 sub) and sound really very nice at all volume levels. And those puppies can make some serious noise: they give you 143W continuous power and peak at 200W! A.L. also make a 4 speaker system that might be worth looking at.

Evangelical,
Thanks, I'll have a look, because the Bose speakers went back, so I'm on the hunt for something else.

Is it possible to connect powered speakers to the tyros speaker outputs or are those only for the Tyros speakers?

Absolutely. And the better the speakers the better the result. You might even consider hooking up the keyboard to your stereo set and see if you like the sound. One very valuable thing I've learned from my friends on this board is that any keyboard can always use some help when it comes to bass. So make sure you connect a subwoofer. It makes a biiig difference!

Here's what I have learned so far....the subwoofer must be plugged in to the Tyros to allow the satellites to work. No woofer, no sound out of the L&R sattellites, but other speakers besides the Tyros ones do work, it's a matter of finding them is all. The other option, is to plug the main outputs into different speakers as well.

Well I took Evangelical's advice and got the set of 3 Altec Lansing 621's......very very nice, and I'm sure I could shatter the windows in my studio without too much effort. The satellites have great high and mid range with good bass response as well. I hooked up the sub woofer as well and it has deep heavy bass to it.....

So this set is the keepers. It really made the Tyros sound more to it's potential than the stock setup....thanks Evan, for the heads up on these.

To clarify a bit what can be done with these Altec Lansings.

There are a couple of ways they can be set up.
1. You can just replace the satellites
2. You can run all 4 of the satellites...the Tyros originals and the AL's
3. Any combination of the above all need the Tyros subwoofer plugged in still
4. You can also run both total systems in parallel (which is what I have done) so, I have 4 satellites and 2 subwoofers running and by running them in parallel, I can control the volume of each seperately one from the other.

It sounds killer especially on the acoustic styles with the mega guitars....WOW!

Hey Terry ... wow!! Sounds like you found a really nice setup there. Glad you like the AL's!
And to tonkan: seems I misinformed you. The Tyros has speaker outs and line outs. According to Yamaha you can only hook their speakers into the speaker outputs. But you can plug any powered speaker system or amp or home stereo into the line outs.

Have fun with your Tyri y'all! I just got me a used 9000 Pro and man that puppy rocks!

Blessings,
ev

Jus,
It depends on what sort of outs you have on the 1K. The Tyros has seperate outs for speakers besides the main and sub outs. Without seperate outs and built in on board speakers, then the only way I could think of would be to open up the board and attach a couple of wires to the lines that run to the speakers and put an rca jack on them to plug the Altec satellite in. Plan 2 would be to run out of the main outputs to them and I think a keyboard amp or powered monitors would work better for that.

It did just occur to me all the debate that took place over the Tyros not having on board speakers....sure am glad it didn't....that allowed me to be able to change the speaker set up without a hassle.

Jax,
I had a look at those the other day and they are doing something other than what we/I was trying to accomplish. Basically I was trying to come up with a better set of satellite speakers.....which are very small and can sit on top of the Tyros. The M audios would be more for coming out of the main outs.
