Yamaha reps were there to answer some of the technical questions, but they failed to bring a keyboard along with them.

Cheers,

Gary

Ouch!!! I was in the sales business for 25 years everything from retail piano and organ sales and eventually to a Fortune 500 company. With a major product upgrade like the T2 I would have been very embarassed not to have shown up with live product, shame on Yamaha! Which brings me to another gripe I have about Yammie. During my lunch break today I was at the local BJs wholesale club. They had a DGX505 on display for sale. Can't believe this $600 piano has a better feeling keyboard action than the PSR3000. Of course I won't even comment on the fact it has 88 keys as well.

Was the reps supposed to bring the T2 with them or use a store demo model?

Mark Anderson is not a Yamaha Rep. He is the Product Manager at Yamaha USA in California. He was on a East Coast swing to visit stores as a representative of Yamaha. Yamaha has District Sales managers for each territory and Product Specialists who demonstrate products by bringing them to stores. When Mark was on his west coast swing a few weeks ago, I also thought he might have a demo with him, and then I remembered his mission was to bring some Portable keyboard engnineers into my store to pick my brain a little and although Mark gave me some infor on the Tyros2 he didn't cary one with him. There is only one at Yamaha USA and it is in the tech support department. All the product specialist have been shipped their demo units and these are the support people you will see in the stores over the next months. I believe, and Dan will probably agree, that the Tyros 2 is so hot right now that each time I put a demo on the floor and one of my customers come in and don't want to wait and pleade with me, I end up selling the demo model. It's hard to make your good customers wait. I actually sold my demo unit today to one of our Synthzone members who couldn't wait any more and I knew I was getting more in on Monday or Tuesday. So, any of you members around the So. California area, please don't come in this weekend expecting to play a Tyros2. My floor unit just got sold!

Hello ....

I was assuming that he might have the keyboard with him, but I was wrong. I forgot that Music and Farts Center (owned by GC) has a few Yamaha portable keyboards and digital pianos. Mark had to show employees the red power buttons and it's function .....

Help screens on portable keyboards were not developed for helping the consumer use the keyboard ! It was developed for salespeople to help sell the keyboard and answer questions consumers may have .

Even at the expense of not having a unit for me to tryout, I can't find fault with a dealer that sells a customer the floor model. I think that it's just good customer relations. Of course, I would always make the call before I make any kind of trip to see if my dealer had the model(s) I'm interested in there for me to try out. Any trip to any music store is a long one from here.....

AJ good post & very true.........theres nothing like having a hands On Demo or better yet sitting down & trying it YOURSELF in a store if you could ever find what you want...
saves alot of headaches in the long run.....but many sties only have a limited selection at most ...or they'll try to push you toward what the deal with.........the internet is making choices easier with websites, BBs discussions, videos, mp3 demos etc, etc, ........in one way future technology is great in another way somethings really stink...
